Johnny Depp Warns ‘No One Is Safe’ From Cancel Culture

Johnny DeppJohnny Depp recently opened up about being boycotted by Hollywood after his ex Amber Heard accused him of domestic violence. Depp is currently suing Amber Heard in a $50 million defamation lawsuit for the op-ed she penned for Washington Post, in which she talked about surviving domestic violence.

Depp, 58, has had his share of “cancel culture”, and as an A-lister, he’s wondering how positively effective cancel culture is and who can be declared above social media’s newest trend. Billionaires, Hollywood’s A-listers, politicians, social media influencers, models, average workers, me, you?

According to Johnny Depp, nobody’s safe from it, not even the best of us.

Johnny Depp Shares Cryptic Message: Cancel Culture “Out of Hand”

Johnny Depp took a definitive stance against cancel culture at the San Sebastian Film Festival on Wednesday, September 22.

“It can be seen as an event in history that lasted for however long it lasted, this cancel culture, this instant rush to judgement based on what essentially amounts to polluted air,” the “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor said during a press conference at the Spain event prior to receiving the Donostia Award, per a report by Vanity.

His recent comments go in line with his claims that he was being “boycotted” and that his career was taking a hit as a result of losing the Nov. 2020 libel case against The Sun. The outlet labeled Johnny Depp a “wife beater” following allegations that he physically assaulted his ex-wife Amber Heard several times.

“It’s so far out of hand now that I can promise you that no one is safe,” Johnny said about cancel culture. “Not one of you. No one out that door. No one is safe,” he continued.

His frustration predictably comes from the fact that he was dropped from the Warner Bros. movie franchise, Fantastic Beasts, in which he was previously set to star in. As if that isn’t bad enough, he won’t be making an appearance in any future Disney films.

In addition to this, sources are predicting that his latest project Minamata has not dropped in the U.S. as a result of losing the libel suit.

Johnny Depp Urges People To Stand Against “Cancel Culture”

The actor and Oscar nominee also advised against “cancel culture”, especially the inaccurate ways in which judgment is passed.

“It takes one sentence and there’s no more ground, the carpet has been pulled. It’s not just me that this has happened to, it’s happened to a lot of people. This type of thing has happened to women, men. Children have suffered from various types of unpleasantries. Sadly at a certain point they begin to think that it’s normal. Or that it’s them. When it’s not.” He then called the concept of cancel culture “an injustice,” and urged others to “stand up” against it.

Depp has previously spoken out about how his ex-wife’s allegations against him has impacted his career in general.

In an August 14 interview with The Sunday Times, he said: “One man, one actor in an unpleasant and messy situation, over the last number of years? But, you know, I’m moving towards where I need to go to make all that… To bring things to light.”
