Jonah Hill Will No Longer Promote His Own Movies, Here’s Why

Jonah Hill Will No Longer Promote His Own Movies, Here's WhyHenceforth, Jonah Hill will not be promoting his movies starting from his latest documentary “Stutz.” Jonah explained in an open letter which he wrote to Deadline that his decision to not promote his movies has to do with his 20 years anxiety battles which have always been as a result of “Media appearances and public facing events.”

The “Superbad” actor Jonah Hill, 38, explained in his letter that he would be taking a break to focus on his anxiety issues and help himself, he explained that his new film “Stutz” which he directed and starred in, is centered on his therapist Phil Stutz and that the film is about therapy and mental health. Jonah also said that it would be hypocritical of him to come out and promote the movie because it would simply mean that he isn’t telling himself the truth, that he is not helping himself, and not living up to the essence of the documentary.

“…However, you won’t see me out there promoting this film, or any of my upcoming films, while I take this important step to protect myself, If I made myself sicker by going out there and promoting it, I wouldn’t be acting true to myself or to the film.”

Jonah Hill — More About The Film “Stutz”

According to Jonah, his upcoming Netflix documentary “Stutz” will be launched in a “Prestigious Film Festival” Jonah also said that Netflix allowed him to document the therapy sessions and teachings from his therapist Phil Stutz, he said, “Netflix let me make a doc on therapy and Phil’s teachings, and then it became about Phil’s life, and then it became about how insane it is that I am making a movie about my therapist.”

Jonah went on to explain that the sole reason for the film is so that people who are struggling with their mental health will learn from it and their loved ones too would understand what they’re going through and help them.

Jonah concluded the letter by saying that he is grateful to be among the few who are privileged to be able to take time off their work to work on their mental health, and that he is glad he won’t lose his job for taking a break.

After Deadline dropped the letter written by Jonah, a lot of celebrities quickly showed their support to Jonah, celebrities like Josh Gad, and Christian O’Connell. They told Jonah that they were proud of him for publicly being honest about his anxiety attacks, they also said that they understood what Jonah is going through because they too have been struggling with anxiety, Christian O’Connell mentioned that he nearly lost his dream job because of his anxiety issues.

Jonah Hill — Jonah Hill’s Past Insecurities

Sometime last year Jonah said that he has been battling with insecurities concerning his physical appearance because for years, paparazzi, and interviewers have constantly publicly mocked his physique and he found it difficult to publicly take off his shirt even in the pool.

Jonah said he has always been body shamed all through his childhood but he finally began to love himself when he got to his mid 30s, he said “I’m 37 and finally love and accept myself.” As at the time Jonah made that public revelation about himself, he explained that he wasn’t making the post so that people would feel sorry for him or for people to think otherwise, but it was to encourage kids who have been in his situation or who are currently in his situation to go ahead and enjoy themselves “it’s for the kids who don’t take their shirt off at the pool. Have fun. You’re wonderful and awesome and perfect. All my love.”
