The “Runaway Bride” actress Julia Roberts turned 55 on Oct. 28. Her new age brought to light something her fans has never heard about her, and the revelation left them in awe.
On her birthday, Zara Rahim, a former strategic adviser to President Barack Obama made a post on Twitter wishing the Ticket to Paradise star a happy birthday. The post also has a clip attached to it. The clip featured Julia in an interview held last month for A+E Networks and History Channel’s HISTORYTalks, revealing to Gayle King the history of her birth.
Zara’s tweet reads, “Today is Julia Roberts birthday! 55 years ago MLK and Coretta Scott King paid for her parents hospital bill after she was born. Can’t stop thinking about this since I read it. Here she is talking about it with @GayleKing https://t.co/5HvpNSUIYb pic.twitter.com/147x6d807W”
Julia Roberts — How and Why MLK & Coretta Paid Julia’s Hospital Bill
Thanks to Gayle who coerced Julia into spilling the tea otherwise we wouldn’t have known this fact about Julia. In the clip, Gayle asked Julia, “Let’s start with the day you were born — who paid for the hospital bill?” To which Julia told Gayle that she made good research, before replying, “The King family paid for my hospital bill…They helped us out of a jam.”
According to Julia, that act from MLK and his wife was done out of appreciation to Julia’s parents Betty Lou Bredemus and Walter Grady Roberts for helping the King’s family in their time of need.
Speaking about what her parents did for the King family, Julia said, “My parents had a theater school in Atlanta called the Actors and Writers Workshop, and one day Coretta Scott King called my mother and asked if her kids could be part of the school because they were having a hard time finding a place that would accept her kids. And my mom is like, ‘Sure come on over.’ And so they just all became friends, and they helped us out of a jam.”
Gayle who was visibly amazed by the news noted, “Yeah, because in the ’60s, you didn’t have little Black children interacting with little white kids in acting school. And your parents were like, ‘Come on in.’ I think that’s extraordinary, and it sort of lays the groundwork for who you are.”
Julia Roberts — How MLK’s Daughter Reacted To The Clip
The clip definitely made round the net. To prove the authenticity of what Julia said, the youngest child of the King family Bernice King came to Twitter to confirm the news and also express her happiness that the news was out and people received it in amazement.
“Grateful that #JuliaRoberts shared this story with @GayleKing and that so many people have been awed by it, I know the story well, but it is moving for me to be reminded of my parents’ generosity and influence. #CorettaScottKing #MLK.”
