Katie Holmes Blasts ‘Dangerous’ Reporting About Daughter Suri Cruise

Katie Holmes has firmly refuted claims about her daughter, Suri Cruise, being a millionaire due to a trust fund allegedly set up by her father, Tom Cruise. The speculation arose from a recent Daily Mail article, which Holmes denounced as “completely false.”

The 45-year-old actress, known for her role in Dawson’s Creek, took to Instagram to clear the air. Sharing a screenshot of the article, Holmes wrote: “Daily Mail you can stop making stuff up.” In her caption, she added a succinct but emphatic “Enough.”

Holmes Addresses Public Criticism

Holmes’ post drew mixed reactions online. Some commenters criticized her for addressing the media rumor, suggesting there were more pressing global issues. One user remarked:

“A story in a rag media outlet, when there are moms in parts of this world who hope their daughters just survive the day.”

Responding to this, Holmes acknowledged the broader perspective but expressed her concern for her daughter’s safety. She replied:

“I don’t disagree. But in the world today, I don’t want a target on my child’s back. It’s dangerous.”

Holmes also engaged with another commenter who suggested that fabricating such stories “should be against the law.” Agreeing, she wrote, “It really should.”

The Alleged Trust Fund

The Daily Mail claimed that Suri, who turned 18 in April 2023, had gained access to a trust fund as part of the divorce settlement between Holmes and Tom Cruise.

The article further alleged that the fund would release additional payments when Suri turns 30. Holmes has denied these assertions outright.

While the Daily Mail report also mentioned an unidentified source claiming Holmes herself had established a trust fund for Suri, Holmes has not addressed that part of the story.

A Mother-Daughter Bond

Katie Holmes has often emphasized her dedication to protecting Suri from the public spotlight. Speaking to Glamour in April 2023, she said:

“What has been really important for me with my daughter, because she was so visible at a young age, is I really like to protect her. I’m very grateful to be a parent, to be her parent. She’s an incredible person.”

Suri has occasionally collaborated with her mother on creative projects. She contributed vocals for the opening credits of Holmes’ 2022 film Alone Together and her 2023 film Rare Objects. Holmes expressed her pride, saying:

“It comes out of love for me to include someone who I love dearly. That’s how I like to work. It was very meaningful to me to have her there because she’s my heart.”

Holmes and Tom Cruise were married in 2006 and welcomed Suri the same year. Their marriage ended in 2012, after which Holmes largely took on the role of raising Suri.

Despite the challenges of parenting in the public eye, she has managed to maintain a close and supportive relationship with her daughter.

Holmes, now starring in the Broadway production Our Town, continues to cherish her role as a mother. In a 2017 interview, she reflected on her journey with Suri:

“I feel very blessed to have such a special daughter. Being her mom is absolutely the greatest gift and privilege.”
