Kevin Bacon On Developing This Surprising Fear At A Wedding

Kevin Bacon On Developing This Surprising Fear At A WeddingYou’d be surprised to find out that there really is something that Kevin Bacon fears, and believe you me it is not your average fear.

Remember how the name of his breakthrough musical drama is “Footloose?” Well, keep that in mind as we forge on to discover why Kevin Bacon and weddings don’t mix so well.

Kevin Bacon Says People Would Treat Him Like A “Trained Monkey” Because of One of His Earlier Movies

Kevin Bacon is as free going as the next guy, but not when people start treating him like a circus animal. The Golden Globe Award winning star touched on his many decades in the spotlight during a career retrospective at SXSW in Austin, Texas, on Friday, March 7.

During the discussion, the actor couldn’t help pointing out how “Footloose” continues to influence his life many decades after the film originally premiered in 1984.

He said: “It’s what I wanted, I have no one to blame but myself. It was definitely my dream to have all those things. But until you really have that, you don’t really realize there’s something kind of strange about it.”

He confessed, “My worst nightmare is to be at a wedding and the DJ puts on the music.” They always start out being about the bride, and then there’s alcohol involved. And by about 10:30, the song comes on, and suddenly the wedding becomes about me getting out and dancing. People will literally form a circle around me and clap their hands like I’m a trained monkey.”

You don’t have to be in the middle of the situation to know that Bacon would probably be feeling like a monkey’s uncle – wait, is that how that phrase is supposed to be used?

Anyway, to avoid this mortifying scenario from repeating itself in the future, Bacon takes care to approach DJs ahead of time to instruct them not to play the song.

He explained, “It’s not because I don’t love the song, I do love this song. It’s not because I’m not proud of the movie, I’m 100% proud of it.”

Bacon’s breakout role may have been “Footloose,” but he has since appeared in a lot of popular movies, including 1995’s ‘Apollo 13,’ 1992’s ‘A Few Good Men,’ and 2011’s ‘Crazy, Stupid, Love.’
