An insider revealed, “He’s under a lot of pressure right now to look his best. He’s doing so many media appearances — not to mention he’s on the prowl again and wants to snag a younger woman — so he’s been a lot more critical of his aging face.”

It seems the actor may have given his surgeon free rein over the procedures, which has led to an outcome that some feel looks unnatural. “He’s a bit sheepish about it. So instead of getting advice on what to get done, word is he’s just gone to the surgeon and given the doctor carte blanche,” the source added. Speculation has risen that Botox is responsible for Costner’s dramatically smoother skin. Plastic surgeon Dr. Otto Placik, who has not treated the actor, offered his opinion to Life & Style, saying, “Given his obvious sun exposure and multiple lines in the crow’s-feet area, one would expect numerous transverse forehead creases — but there are none.”

He went on to explain that the lowered position of Costner’s eyebrows and the excess skin around his upper eyelids suggest that Botox is likely behind the transformation.

Friends of the actor have also voiced their concerns, noting that Costner’s rugged appearance, complete with a few wrinkles, was part of his charm. An insider mentioned, “It’s kind of disturbing to see him turning himself into this shiny waxwork.”

Some have pointed out that if his ex-wife Christine Baumgartner were still in his life, she may have guided him toward a more natural-looking result, as she herself takes pride in maintaining a balanced appearance.
