Coachella has long been more than just a music festival—it’s a cultural hotspot, a celebrity playground, and a showcase for fashion, fame, and now, even the next generation of Hollywood royalty.
This year, while stars like Lady Gaga, Travis Scott, Green Day, and Post Malone took to the stage, it was a 10-year-old who managed to stir the most conversation online: North West.
Yes, the daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West was spotted enjoying Coachella, not just as a spectator, but as a tiny influencer in her own right—Balenciaga bag in hand, friends in tow, and a team of bodyguards close behind.
She wasn’t alone either. Her cousin Stormi, daughter of Kylie Jenner, was also there, joining in the family’s tradition of popping up at major cultural events.
North’s appearance was captured in a flurry of TikTok posts where she and her friends showcased their festival looks, including that now-infamous luxury handbag reportedly valued between $2,550 and $5,900.
The posts quickly made rounds, not just for the fashion, but for what they represented: a child, albeit a famous one, navigating a very adult space.
An All-Ages Event, But Is It Kid-Appropriate?
Fans were quick to point out that Coachella is technically an all-ages event. Children under five can enter for free, and those under 18 are required to be accompanied by a guardian. But even with those guidelines, many weren’t convinced this was a fitting environment for a child.
“It’s not weird, it’s reckless,” one user commented. “I don’t care that she had security with her—she is a child!! North had no business being at Coachella.”
Another brought up a familiar parallel from pop culture history, saying, “Reminds me of Drew Barrymore being allowed into Studio 54…”
And the criticism didn’t stop there. Concerns ranged from the maturity of the content at Coachella to the general festival environment. “There’s varying degrees of what’s appropriate with minors attending a festival,” one person noted. “But I’m confident what’s going on here is far from it.”
Others pointed to the drug culture often associated with music festivals. “The amount of videos I’ve seen of celebrities clearly rolling at Coachella… idc about the all-ages thing, almost all festivals/concerts are technically all ages but that doesn’t mean it’s safe for children. Festivals [equals] drugs and children should NEVER be exposed to adults on drugs.”
Some Defend Kim’s Parenting Choice
Still, there were those who jumped to Kim Kardashian’s defense, suggesting that the reality star might’ve actually protected her daughter more by not being there.
One fan shared on social media, “Sad thing is, North and her friends were probably safer with the security and without Kim, as Kim would’ve been giving away their location constantly and the like.”
Another agreed, writing, “I didn’t even think of that, but you’re so right! Plus the kids would have been less conspicuous without her and like you said, safer.”
The incident raises familiar but complex questions about celebrity parenting, privilege, and where to draw the line between giving your child access and protecting them from the spotlight.
Coachella may be an all-access event on paper, but public opinion remains deeply divided about whether it’s the right space for young kids—even ones who’ve grown up in front of the camera.
A Generation Raised in the Spotlight
In an age where fame comes younger and faster, North West’s Coachella cameo might just be another step in her already-unfolding journey as the next generation Kardashian. But for many, it’s also a flashpoint for discussion about the boundaries of childhood in the limelight.
