Matthew Perry Explains His Keanu Reeves ‘Still Walks Among Us’ Statement From His Memoir

Matthew Perry‘s new memoir “Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing,” is yet to drop but some of its contents have already dropped before the book itself. The excerpts from Perry’s memoir that went viral and caused a ruckus online is, where the actor questioned why his fellow actor Keanu Reeves “Still walks among us.”

The section of the memoir which bears the above quote wasn’t in any way misquoted or taken out of context, it is just as it was written. Perry’s words about Keanu was one in which Perry was trying to figure out why some of his good friends who were notable actors passed away so early meanwhile actors such as Keanu are still alive.

Fans saw that writeup as a shade from Perry to Keanu and they didn’t waste time to react to it.

Matthew Perry — About Perry’s Shady Writeup On Keanu Reeves

Speaking about his very good friend, the late River Phoenix, Perry wrote: “River was a beautiful man, inside and out — too beautiful for this world, it turned out. It always seems to be the really talented guys who go down. Why is it that the original thinkers like River Phoenix and Heath Ledger die, but Keanu Reeves still walks among us?”

Perry also made mention of another great actor Chris Farley who is also late, and questioned why Chris should die early meanwhile Keanu still lives. “His disease had progressed faster than mine had. (Plus, I had a healthy fear of the word ‘heroin,’ a fear we did not share), I punched a hole through Jennifer Aniston’s dressing room wall when I found out. Keanu Reeves walks among us.”

The above quote from Perry’s memoir is passing a message that is being translated as Perry wishing it was Keanu that died instead of River Phoenix, and Chris Farley.

Some stars used social media to drop their two cents concerning the write-up. Stars like the former actress of “Wonder Woman” Lynda Carter tweeted “Come on… Keanu Reeves is like one of those frozen cakes. Nobody doesn’t like him!” While “West Side Story” alum Rachel Zegler tweeted “personally thrilled that Keanu reeves walks among us.”

Matthew Perry — Perry’s Explanation About The Writeup

Like I mentioned earlier, the statement wasn’t taken out of context. However, when Perry saw the problem the statement in his book is causing, and how people seem to think that he was shading Keanu Reeves and wishing Keanu Death, Perry came to offer an explanation and also apologize.

Perry said that he didn’t mean to shade Keanu in his book, it was actually a random name that he picked. “I’m actually a big fan of Keanu. I just chose a random name, my mistake. I apologize. I should have used my own name instead.”
