Meg Ryan Reveals the Moment She Knew Her Son Would Be An Actor

Meg Ryan is truly a supportive parent to her son Jack Quaid, and she’s proven that she will be front and center celebrating his acting journey, whether it’s easy or not.

Meg Ryan Knew Acting Might Be Hard For Son Jack For This Reason: “Nepo Stuff”

Being the child of two well-known stars and choosing to work in the same industry they’re in tends to diminish your accomplishments. Why?

People generally assume you had it easier because you’ve got parents who worked or still works in the industry, and since they know its ins and outs, you can easily navigate and get opportunities.

In her cover interview with Glamour, Ryan shared the fears she felt the moment she realized her son was a “natural” actor.

Meg Ryan Reveals the Moment She Knew Her Son Would Be An Actor

“I remember seeing him in a middle school production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. He was playing Bottom. I was newly divorced from his dad, and he was seated at the other side of the gym,” she recalled. “I had my head in my hands and was like, ‘Oh, no. He’s good. He’s really good. I leaned forward, and I see Dennis, and he’s also leaning forward with his head in his hands. I just knew.”

And that was when she felt that he would have a harder time proving to the world that he’s a star on his own right, especially since he’s got two notable actors as parents.

“You don’t wish it [on anyone]. It’s too hard and it’s too weird,” the “Sleepless in Seattle” star said. “Jack is really talented. He’s more of a natural than I’ll ever be. That nepo stuff is so dismissive of his work ethic, his gifts, and how sensitive he is to the idea of his privilege.”

In addition to Jack, 31, Ryan is also mom to Daisy, whom she adopted as a single mom in 2006.

Jack Quaid – Doesn’t Get Acting Advice From His Parents

Last year, Jack Quaid chatted with PEOPLE about his parents’ influence on his acting career. “They don’t really give me advice,” the “Scream” actor shared at the time. “I’ve never asked them, ‘How should I perform this scene?’ The way that this business works is so much different than the way that it worked back then for them.”

While he doesn’t depend on them for acting advice, he did get immeasurable support from them through another means.

“It’s lucky that I got to grow up saying, ‘Hey I want to be an actor’ and they understood that,” Jack said. “I didn’t grow up in a house that didn’t quite understand what that meant or a house that would tell me, ‘Oh, that probably isn’t the wisest choice. You should have a backup plan.’ Like, I had the privilege and I was lucky to have people that understood what that meant and supported me going into it.”
