Mel Gibson has now become the first cast of the “John Wick” prequel. He is best known for his roles in “Mad Max”, “Braveheart”, “Lethal Weapon”, “Hacksaw Ridge”, and others.
Gibson has been added to the lineup of “The Continental”, which is set to take place 40 years before the original blockbuster franchise “John Wick” starring Keanu Reeves.
Mel Gibson’s Role In “The Continental” And Prequel Details
Gibson’s character in the films will be called Cormac, but no more details about his role has been made available.
What is known so far of the upcoming prequel is that the origin story will be told through the POV of a young Winston Scott, who is “dragged into the Hell-scape of a 1975 New York City to face a past he thought he’d left behind.”
Scott plots to seize the iconic hotel from assassins that feature in the series, but he will have to narrowly dodge death several times as bullets come flying his way.
The prequel will be produced by Lionsgate Television as a three-night special-event TV series for Starz. The showrunners include Greg Coolidge (“Ride Along”, “Wayne”), and Kirk Ward (“Wayne”). The pair are set to write and executive-produce as well.
Keanu Reeves is not expected to appear in the movie and Ian McShane, who plays Scott in the famous franchise, might reportedly do a voice-over but will also not be making an appearance in the series.

At the moment, Reeves is reprising his role as the titular hitman in the upcoming “John Wick: Chapter 4”. Filming has already started in Germany, France and Japan. While Reeves won’t be appearing in the prequel, it is said that he is considering coming on board as an executive producer.
“John Wick: Chapter 4” was previously expected to shoot back to back with “John Wick: Chapter 5”, but Lionsgate, the production studio, opted to postpone the plans, likely as a result of the pandemic.
Therefore, “John Wick: Chapter 4” will premiere in 2022, with the fifth film going into production at a later date.
There are also talks of a proposed spin-off, titled “The Ballerina”, which could enter production in the future.
