A treasure hunter discovered unreleased tapes by Michael Jackson, and they must be worth a fortune. But is it a massive windfall for retired California Highway Patrol officer, Gregg Musgrove? Read on to find out.
Michael Jackson Never Released All His Music
Apart from Rosie O’Donnell, millions of people worldwide would give anything to listen to unreleased tapes by the iconic pop star. Although he died in 2009, interest in the “King of Pop” remains extreme. Actually, there are a lot of tapes that were never released, probably because the performer was a perfectionist.
Michael Jackson worked with Bryan Loren, a music producer, and singer. Probably, you recall his involvement in “Dangerous.” Well, The Hollywood Reporter noted that Bryan had a storage unit, but something went wrong and payment on the unit lapsed. Now, a retired California Highway Patrol officer and his friend got lucky. But, there’s a complication.
12 Unreleased Michael Jackson Tapes
Anyone can be a treasure hunter, and once the bug bites, it can be addictive. In fact, it’s not just Storage Wars and American Pickers stars that bring in some cash. So, that’s what Gregg Musgrove started doing when he ditched his old job. The outlet reported that his “associate contacted him about a storage unit he’d recently bought in Van Nuys.”
12 Michael Jackson tapes were found along with other paraphernalia. Some of them predated “Dangerous” and were recorded in 1989. Excited, the retiree invested in some equipment so he could play them. Additionally, he engaged a lawyer to find out about ownership rights. But, they hit some snags.
Tapes Are A Windfall – Sort Of
Fortunately, some collectors would pay a lot of dollars for the tapes. However, making them available to the public to listen to won’t happen. The outlet noted that “Michael Jackson’s estate” won’t play ball and apart from the owner listening to them, nobody can publish the music. Apparently, “Sony,” who owns some rights won’t come to the table either. That’s because the estate already has the original “master copies.”
Nevertheless, via a big auction house, the tapes by Michael Jackson could fetch as much as “seven digits.” In an update, the outlet explained that “the physical tapes are not currently in Musgrove’s possession. They are in a secure facility under the control of his attorney.”
