Tom Cruise, you gotta change your style. Mickey Rourke is not one bit impressed with the role Tom Cruise has been playing, and he isn’t hiding that fact, he even boldly said he doesn’t respect how far Tom Cruise has come because to him, Tom Cruise has been doing the same thing his whole career.
Mickey Rourke Said Cruise Is “Irrelevant” To His World
While discussing the latest Tom Cruise’s Top Gun Maverick which has crossed Over $1 Billion mark at the global box office, on Monday with Piers Morgan in Piers Morgan Uncensored, the Wrestling actor Mickey Rourke didn’t mince words in expressing his dislike for the Mission Impossible star Tom Cruise.
Mickey is also unimpressed with the height the Top Gun: Maverick sequel has attained within the space of its short release. “That doesn’t mean s— to me. The guy’s been doing the same f’ing part for 35 years, you know?”
Saying that he doesn’t respect what Tom Cruise does, he went on to like some of his favorite actors who he looks up to, and some others that stretch as actors. “I got no respect for that. Really, brother. I don’t care about money and power. I care about when I watch Al Pacino working, Chris Walken, [Robert] De Niro’s early work, Richard Harris’ work, Ray Winstone’s work — that’s the kind of actor I want to be, like Monty Clift, [Marlon] Brando back in the day. A lot of guys that just tried to stretch as actors.”
When Morgan pressed Rourke on if he thinks Cruise is a good actor or not, Rourke responded: “I think he’s irrelevant, in my world.”
Mickey Rourke — Rourke Has Previously Slammed A Hollywood Colleague
This is not the first time Rourke has taken a shot at a Hollywood colleague.
In 2020, The Iron Man 2 star reignited his longstanding feud with Robert De Niro in a lengthy Instagram post, calling him a “f***ing crybaby.”
“Hey Robert De Niro, that’s right I am talking to you, you big f***ing crybaby,” Rourke wrote. A friend of mine just recently told me that a few months back you’re quoted as saying to newspapers, ‘Mickey Rourke’s a liar he talks all kind of sh*t.’
“Listen Mr. Tough Guy in the movies, you’re the first person that ever called me a liar and it was in a newspaper. Let me tell you something, you punk a**, when I see you I swear to God on my grandmother, on my brother and all my dogs, I gonna embarrass you severely 100 percent. Mickey Rourke ‘as God is my witness’.”
Mickey Rourke was referring to a claim that he was blocked from appearing in The Irishman because of De Niro.
“Marty Scorsese, great director, he wanted to meet me for a movie with Al Pacino, Joe Pesci, Chris Walken and Robert De Niro,” Rourke said on the Italian TV show, Live – Non è la D’Urso.
“The casting person told my manager that Robert De Niro said he refused to work with me in a movie.”

De Niro’s rep, Stan Rosenfield, disputed Rourke’s allegations.
“According to The Irishman producers, Jane Rosenthal and Emma Tillinger Koskoff, and casting director Ellen Lewis, Mickey Rourke was never asked to be in The Irishman nor was he ever even thought of, discussed or considered to be in the movie,” Rosenfield told New York Post in a statement, adding De Niro is “aware of these comments”.
Rourke and De Niro both appeared in Alan Parker’s 1987 film Angel Heart. Rourke claimed he had been snubbed by the actor at the time.
