Seriously, are we still mad at ‘Twilight’ in this day and age or are we just being fake mad at it? Because if we’re still really mad at ‘Twilight’ over a decade on, then Robert Pattinson’s got a few words for us, and it ain’t nice. He basically said “get a life.”
Robert Pattinson Reacts To People Still Hating On ‘Twilight’
When it comes to the people hating on ‘Twilight,’ Pattinson no longer has the mental energy to accomodate them. In his latest interview with GQ Spain, he revealed his new mindset towards ‘Twilight’ haters.
“I love that people keep telling me, ‘Man, Twilight ruined the vampire genre,’” he said. “Are you still stuck on that shit? How can you be sad about something that happened almost 20 years ago? It’s crazy.”
Pattinson played the moody teen vampire Edward Cullen across the franchise’s five films, which ran from 2008 to 2012. His character was also the love interest of Kristen Stewart’s Bella. Despite the haters, the franchise managed to garner thousands of loyal fans enough to even grow into somewhat of a cult.
One of the most admired characters in the movie was Pattinson’s Edward, who the ‘Batman’ star said he was dedicated to making “as arty as possible” to the extent studio execs warned him he was “too emo” with his portrayal.
“We had this strange tension where the studio was scared to make things a little bit too emo and stuff. I thought that was the only way to play it. I spent so much time [on set] infuriated … I can’t believe the way I was acting half the time,” he said.
He further recalled how studio execs threatened to fire him if he doesn’t smile more often and change up the way he was portraying the character.
Leaving the past behind him, Pattinson also set his eyes to the future and talked about his appearance in Bong Ho’s ‘Mickey 17,’ releasing this March.
“Bong Joon Ho is probably one of the five directors in the world right now that can direct a project of this caliber and turn it into something idiosyncratic, unique and interesting,” Pattinson told GQ Spain. “Bong is simply inimitable.”
Pattinson played the role of Mickey Barnes in the space thriller.
