Roseanne Barr Planning New Silly Series: A Family, Guns, and the Bible

Roseanne Barr Planning New Silly Series: A Family, Guns, and the BibleRoseanne Barr, the comedian and actress who was removed from her self-titled ABC sitcom in 2018, is planning a return to television. Now 72, she has teamed up with longtime collaborator Allan Stephan, a producer from Roseanne, to develop a new comedy series.

Details About The Upcoming Show

In an interview with Variety, Barr described the upcoming show as a blend of The Roseanne Show and The Sopranos.

The series will span four to six episodes and follow an Alabama farmer who takes on the mission of “saving the United States from drug gangs and China” while cultivating and selling substances like cannabis and psychedelic mushrooms.

“It’s silly and out there,” Barr shared. “[It will contain] very offensive ideas and a lot of swearing.” She added that the series is partially inspired by her life in Hawaii, where she lives on a farm with her daughter, son-in-law, and six grandchildren. “They have goats running through their house and stuff,” she noted.

Barr described the show as having a Coen brothers feel. It will center on a family with characteristics reminiscent of the Conners from Roseanne. “They save America with guns, the Bible, petty crime, and alcoholism,” she explained.

A Shift In Hollywood?

While Barr is unsure if a major network will take on her new project, she remains unfazed. “I don’t give a f— either way,” she stated, adding that she wouldn’t hesitate to distribute the show independently if necessary.

“I’d like to get paid handsomely to bring another s— f—ing network back from doom as I’ve done twice for ABC,” Barr said. “But I just don’t see how they would keep their nose out of my business. We’ll see. If not, I’ll just go somewhere else and put it on my own website.”

Beyond her television ambitions, Barr believes Hollywood is out of touch with the American public. She argues that the entertainment industry should embrace the country’s political reality, specifically Donald Trump’s recent election victory.

“Hollywood has made itself irrelevant to the American people,” Barr stated. “If they want to survive, they should work with the new president. American people elected him in an overwhelming victory.”

She went on to criticize industry executives, questioning their business decisions:

“They should get back in touch with [them] and make some money, which I don’t know if they do or not ’cause they’ve proven to be ideologues rather than [business people]. What shocks me is the fact that they prefer to lose money and then explain that to the shareholders who apparently have no problem with that.”

Barr’s Next Moves

Currently, Barr hosts The Roseanne Barr Podcast and has made guest appearances on other shows, including Club Random with Bill Maher. She has also dabbled in music, releasing a music video with Canadian rapper Tom MacDonald titled Daddy’s Home, which has amassed millions of views.

While Barr openly supports Trump, she admitted she isn’t fully embraced by his team. She revealed that multiple invitations to members of Trump’s inner circle to appear on her podcast went unanswered.

“The Trump administration regards me as a loose cannon, which I am,” she said. “I’m not a party-line person for anyone or anything except myself. The Trump staff or whoever runs it, they’re a little afraid of me. I am a loudmouth comedian, so I understand it. But it really hurt my feelings. But what are you gonna do?”

As for whether a major network will take a chance on her once more, only time will tell. But one thing is clear—Barr is determined to have her voice heard, whether through traditional media or on her own terms.
