Ryan Reynolds Roasts Hugh Jackman’s Dancing Advice To Him ‘His Helping Was Not Helping’

It’s a well-known fact that Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are archenemies both onscreen and offscreen. They’ve both cracked us up countless times with their numerous banters.

Something about the Deadpool actor, and the Wolverine actor having an understanding in between their banterings has led Ryan to invite Hugh to give him some dance lessons for his new Apple TV+ Christmas movie “Spirited.” Seems like it didn’t end well.

Ryan Reynolds — Ryan Isn’t So Happy With Hugh’s Advice

It happens that “The Greatest Showman” accepted to tutor “Free Guy” by giving his pointers on how to be a great singer and dancer for his “Spirited” Christmas movie with Will Ferrell.

In an interview with “Big Issue,” Ryan detailed his experience as Hugh’s student. “[Dancing] comes so naturally to Hugh that in a weird way, his helping was not helping. He was like, ‘Just make sure you’re listening to those count-offs and those beats’. And I was like, ‘I don’t hear the beats, man. Help me out with something real here!’”

Just as the saying “in every bad, there must be a tiny good,” it happens that Ryan didn’t completely waste his time with Hugh, he got a great advice from his greatest Nemesis. The advice was given to Ryan over a cup of coffee and not on the dance floor.

“Hugh and I were having coffee one day and he reminded me of something that is so vital with almost anything that you’re doing in the arts. He said, ‘Just remember to enjoy it, because if you’re enjoying it, we’ll enjoy it.’”

“That was something that I constantly reminded myself. Even when I felt so out of my depth, which was almost every day, I kept reminding myself that this is an opportunity of a lifetime. And it actually extended well beyond this project into other aspects of my life. So that was pretty good advice.”

Ryan Reynolds — Ryan Compares Dancing To Fighting

Even though we’ve seen Ryan throw in a few dance moves here and there in Deadpool, he admits he prefers his superhero fights to dancing, he’s terrible at dancing.

Ryan said, “Training for a superhero movie is something I’ve been doing since I was 20, and I’m 46 now, doing a fight sequence is in my bones. I memorize them very fast. I can make a mistake and use that mistake to my advantage in the moment. Whereas dancing, if I make one mistake, I completely fall apart.”

Ryan also explained how his flaws of not being perfect have always helped him perfect his numerous roles in his movies. “The great gift about getting older is you become more and more comfortable with sucking at something. The more comfortable I am at sucking at something, the better I become at that thing.”

“If I’m looking through the lens of, this has to have perfection right off the bat, it becomes a law of diminishing returns. When you allow yourself to be bad at something, it really gives yourself permission to be good at it as well.”
