The multiple Olympic gold medalist has announced her return to gymnastics after going on a 2-year hiatus to prioritize her mental health and wellbeing.
The last time we saw her, she barely got through the competition round at the Tokyo Olympics. Now, after walking down the aisle and launching a profitable business, she feels capable enough to return to the competition floor. Read on to find out when she’ll make her grand return to the sports.
Simone Biles Confirms That She’s Returning To the Competition Floor
For those who might have lost hope or those that are on their way to losing it, Simone Biles is BACK! (I screamed it so those in the back can hear it.)
On July 6, the sportswoman shared the grand news with fans. “Sorry I’ve been a little MIA since the announcement,” Biles wrote. “I’m overwhelmed with all of your messages, support & love! excited to get back out on the competition floor! XOXO.”
She was met with an outpouring of love and support from fans who have been keenly waiting to see her back.
AP also shared that the star athlete is planning to compete at the U.S. Classic in early August which “typically serves as a warm-up of sorts for the national championships.” This would be her first event since the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Dropping out midway through the competition series, Biles said at the time, “I truly do feel like I have the weight of the world on my shoulders at times. I know I brush it off and make it seem like pressure doesn’t affect me but d*mn sometimes it’s hard.”
She cheered her team the whole way through and returned for the finals, even though she didn’t get that gold she’s become so well known for.
Speaking with Brené Brown at the Simmons Leadership Conference a few months later, she firmly stood by her decision to quit. “Walking away from the Olympic Games was a win in itself,” Biles said. “I know a lot of people thought I failed because they expected me to go out with five or six medals, but walking out of it was my biggest win.”
