Sofía Vergara Shares The Reason Behind Divorce From Joe Manganiello

The “Hot Pursuit” star Sofia Vergara is finally letting the world know the real reason why she had to quit her marriage with the “Magic Mike” actor Joe Manganiello. The former couple’s marriage lasted seven and a half years before they filed for divorce in July 2023.

The news of their breakup made headlines but the reason behind it was unknown. Speaking with a Spanish newspaper, “El País,” Sofía revealed that it all boils down to age and childbirth.

She shared that she was against having a child for Joe because of her age and that brought about the end of their marriage.

Sofía is 51, while Joe is 47, the age difference is just 4 years, however, the “America’s Got Talent” judge explained that she doesn’t want to be a mom at an old age. According to Sofía, “My marriage broke up because my husband was younger; he wanted to have kids and I didn’t want to be an old mom. I feel it’s not fair to the baby. I respect whoever does it, but that’s not for me anymore.”

The star of “Modern Family,” already had a son Manolo Gonzalez, 32, from her previous marriage with ex-husband Joe Gonzalez. The actress shared that while she had her son at the age of 19, he is well grown up, and instead of being a mom to a younger child, she’d rather be a grandmother to her son’s kid(s).

“I had a son at 19, who is now 32, and I’m ready to be a grandmother, not a mother,” she continued. “So, if love comes along, he has to come with [his own] children. I’m almost in menopause; it’s the natural way of things. When my son becomes a dad, let him bring the baby to me for a while and then I’ll give it back to him and go on with my life; that’s what I have to do.”

When the news of her breakup from the “How I Met Your Mother” actor made rounds, Sofía told “CBS Sunday Morning,” that she expected the news to be made public because, “That’s part of being a celebrity,” and also because”You can’t hide those things.” But, one thing she didn’t expect was how the media handled the news without blowing it out of proportion.

“It wasn’t bad,” said Sofía while adding, “I have to say the press was very respectful and very nice. I thought they were going to invent more things. You know how they usually [do], and I was surprised. They kind of just said what it was, and that was it. I’ve been moving on.”
