Tori Spelling’s Daughter Harrie Influenced Her Decision To Leave Dean McDermott

Tori Spelling's Daughter Harrie Influenced Her Decision To Leave Husband Dean McDermottTori Spelling may not have found the courage or come into the headspace to leave her longtime husband Dean McDermott, who she shares five children with, had her 13-year-old daughter Hattie not intervened.

Here’s what the former reality TV show star has to say about making the big decision to move on from McDermott.

Tori Spelling Gets Candid About Life With Dean McDermott And What Drove Her Daughter To Eventually Speak Up

Sometimes what we need to break out of a toxic cycle is the reasoning of someone who loves us and someone we love. Tori Spelling’s angel came in the form of her teenage daughter Hattie, who had seen how her father’s behavior was negatively impacting her mother.

Although she was initially “scared” to raise the topic, when things kept getting worse, Hattie decided to brace herself and broach the subject, asking her mother whether she ever thought of being with someone else.

“Have you ever considered what it would be like to be with someone else and not dad and get treated right?” she recalled the teen asking her at the time.

Not to be taken the wrong way, Hattie loves her father, but she didn’t love the way his relationship with his mother was.

“It got to the point where it was worse for the kids to see us together,” Spelling said. “We could no longer hide what was happening, the fights.”

“He was an addict going through a lot, and a lot of it was taken out on me. And she saw that,” Spelling added of Hattie. “I didn’t like the person I was, trying to raise strong humans and just taking it and taking it.” Spelling shares five kids with McDermott — Beau, 8, Finn, 12, Hattie, Stella, 16, and Liam, 18.

Tori Spelling On Why She Didn’t Leave Dean McDermott Sooner

In December, Spelling revealed via an episode of her podcast that she only stayed with McDermott for as long as she did because she wanted her kids to have their parents together.

“On my part, at least, the want of kids, just always wanting their parents together, I think kept me from making what was outwardly a better decision for them than what they saw between two partners,” the ‘Beverly Hills, 90210’ explained.

At the same time, coming from a stable home made her frown upon dividing hers. “My parents were married over 25 years, up until my dad passed,” she said. “I saw a family always together, and so it was different and I always thought that as bad as things might be between my partner and myself, it’s better to have their dad in the house, than in a different residence.”

She continued, “I think that kept me in the relationship far too long, and it ultimately, I feel, did a disservice to my kids.”
