Twitter Reacts As Ellen DeGeneres Shelters In Place In Montecito

Ellen DeGeneres once sold her home in Montecito, but later, she bought it back. Nowadays, it’s the perfect paradise for her retirement from her long-running show.

Except for one thing, the area’s known for wildfires, and at the moment, heavy rain. When she shared a video on Twitter this week, folks reacted to the residents in the area being told to shelter in place. 

Ellen DeGeneres Lives Near Prince Harry In Montecito

The TV host lives right next door to Oprah Winfrey in Montecito, California, who also happens to live near Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The McMansions are dotted around a beautiful ocean view and set amongst a forested area.

Unfortunately, forests catch fire, and the dry soil becomes treacherous when it rains. Right now, the rich and famous are under evacuation orders, but some of them have been told to shelter in place. 

Ellen DeGeneres lives in a place where on  January 9, 2018, the fires burning in the Santa Ynez Mountains were extinguished by rain. However, it caused a major mudslide and took the lives of some residents. Naturally, fans of the popular TV host hope that she survives the current flood emergency. The news about sheltering in place came directly from Ellen who said that “Mother Nature’s not very happy with us right now.”

Ellen DeGeneres Reports On Mandatory Evacuation

In her video on Twitter, she stood next to a stream that’s usually completely dry. However, it thundered down the hill at about “about 9ft up,” and she said that “it’s gonna go another 2ft up.” In her caption, she wrote, “Montecito is under mandatory evacuation. We are on higher ground so they asked us to shelter in place. Please stay safe everyone.”

It’s not only Ellen DeGeneres who faces potential danger from the extreme weather in California right now. According to The Sun, “Nearly 90 percent of Californians are under a flood watch warning for the next two days as another atmospheric river hammers The Golden State.” However, people seem to like her very much and they do seem concerned about her not moving out of the area. 

Comments And Concern On Twitter

Ellen DeGeneres naturally got a lot of comments under her tweet. Many of them were weather reporters wanting to use her footage or get live updates. But, a lot of other folks also joined in the conversation. Some of them seemed worried about the many horses in the area:

Lynn Chevelle said to EllenDeGeneres, “Please be careful & safe Ellen. Even though they said for you & your family to shelter in place, how do they know if [the] flowing of that water isn’t causing what’s under where you’re standing to soften up. Please post later so that we know you’re all okay!”

So far, Ellen hasn’t returned to Twitter with any updated posts about her situation.
