All My Children News: Cady McClain Reveals Real Reason Behind Dixie’s “Death by Pancakes”

Cady McClain, All My Children Dixie DeathThirteen years on from her untimely onscreen death on ABC’s All My Children, Cady McClain has spilled the real reason she was written off the show. Loyal fans will remember the bizarre way her character Dixie Cooney Martin met her maker in 2007: poison pancakes.

At the time fans were outraged that such a fan fave was killed off, and befuddled at the fate that befell her—who dies from tainted flapjacks?

The reason behind Dixie Martin’s death breakfast revealed

McClain spoke out during an EW Cast Reunion on PeopleTV.com this week to say that it was a spiteful show writer who concocted the idea of that fateful breakfast.

“I’ll never live those pancakes down!” the two-time Daytime Emmy winner said. “It was a very strange way to go out.”

Strange, and apparently very personal according to the actress

McClain continued, “It was a dig at me by one of the writers that very much wanted to put me in my place. I had stepped out of line and they wanted to put me back in line, and I was going to eat those pancakes and I was going to learn my lesson, and I certainly did.”

“My revenge I guess was that I really love pancakes, and they were absolutely delicious so I enjoyed every bite. I was like, ‘This doesn’t bother me because I’m gonna eat them all.’’

Dixie’s death so outraged fans that the show brought her ghost back for episodes in 2008, 2010, and 2011.

Dixie did come back to town albeit as a ghost

For those who don’t quite remember the poison pancake tragedy, Dixie scarfed down pancakes with extra fixins’ that were meant to be eaten by Babe Carey (Alexa Havens).

If you’re wondering how and by whom the pancakes were poisoned, it was the work of the Satin Slayer (Ronald Guttman) serial killer.

Cady McClain participated in the EW Cast Reunion on PeopleTV.com

Joining McClain on the EW Cast Reunion on PeopleTV.com were former AMC colleagues Josh Duhamel (Leo du Pres), Michael E. Knight (Tad Martin), Jennifer Bassey (Marian Colby), Jill Larson (Opal Cortlandt), and Darnell Williams (Jesse Hubbard).

The virtual reunion was a benefit event for Feeding America.

McClain said of the now defunct soap, “The show has just gotten under so many peoples’ skin. It got under my skin, like family.”

She told her fellow participant that she experienced, “the joy of reconnecting and seeing all of your faces and just being so grateful for the time that we had together.”
