Edge of Night Star Forrest Compton Latest Soap Star to Succumb to COVID-19

Compton played the role of District Attorney Mike Carr on the now defunct sudser Edge of Night. As reported by The Shelter Island Reporter, Compton passed away on Saturday, April 4.

Edge of Night Actor Passes Away

Compton joined the cast of The Edge of Night in 1971, when he took over the role of Mike. He continued in the role until December of 1984, when the series went off the air in December of 1984. Mike was involved in may of the mystery soap’s key storylines during his lengthy stint on the show. Edge of Night was set in city of Monticello, and was knows for it’s compelling mystery storylines.

Compton had a Distinguished Acing Career

Compton enjoyed much success as an actor, taking roles on such shows as Gomer Pyle, Hogan’s Heroes, My Three Sons , The Twilight Zone, and That Girl. In 1971, Compton left Los Angeles to return to New York City to help care for his father. It was then that he started on the Edge of Night. Even after Edge ended, continued to work in soaps. He took on roles on Another World, All My Children and Loving.

Former co-star Sharon Gabet, who played Raven on Edge, posted her thought about Compton on Facebook. “’Woody, as [Forrest] was affectionately known to all of us on The Edge of Night, was a master professional, hilarious , smart, kind, and gentle. I spoke with him a couple of years ago on his birthday and he was active and happy in his retirement”

Compton Believed in the Goodness of People

During an interview with the Shelter Island Reported last year, Compton spoke about the goodness he saw in humanity. “Despite what is happening in this country now, people overall are kind, the goodness in most people is there. There are more good people than ones who are selfish and self-serving. It’s been true in my life, and I think in most people’s lives.”
