Kevin Conway Played Earl Brock And Went On To Play Many Other Roles

Kevin Conway briefly played the role of Earl Brock in 1973, who Llanview Police Lietenant Ed Hall (Al Freeman, Jr.) killed in the line of duty. Later, his brother came for revenge, stalking Carla Hall (Ellen Holly), Ed’s girlfriend. The characters Ed and Carla Hall are notable for being one of the first African-American soap opera supercouples in the daytime drama genre. He is also known for his work on The Elephant Man, F.I.S.T, 13 Days and more. Kevin Conway was born on May 29, 1942 in New York City, New York, USA as Kevin John Conway. He was an actor and director, known for Gettysburg (1993), Thirteen Days (2000) and Invincible (2006).

He was married to Mila Burnette. He also played Roger Chillingworth in a television production of The Scarlet Letter (1979), a role later played by Robert Duvall in The Scarlet Letter (1995). He and Duvall later appeared together in Gods and Generals (2003), and appeared in separate films in the Lonesome Dove series: Lonesome Dove (1989) and Streets of Laredo (1995). He studied acting at the Dramatic Workshop at Carnagie Hall and HB Studio in Greenwich Village in New York City.

His stage credits, both on and off Broadway, include John Steinbeck’s “Of Mice & Men”; he portrayed “George Milton” to James Earl Jones’s “Lennie Small”. From 1995 to 2002, he was the Control Voice for the revived series of The Outer Limits. He made a guest appearance on Star Trek: The Next Generation as the clone of the legendary Klingon figure Kahless. He guest starred on The Good Wife episodes “Threesome”, “Boom”, and “Wrongful Termination” as Jonas Stern, a founding partner of the titular character’s law firm. He portrayed Seamus O’Reily, the abusive father of Ryan and Cyril O’Reily in the HBO prison drama Oz.

He was also a guest star on JAG in the episode “King of Fleas” portraying a paraplegic Vietnam vet who confessed to a murder. He has also guest starred on three Law & Order series, the original series, two guest appearances on Law & Order: Criminal Intent, and one on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. He also guest starred in the second season of In the Heat of the Night, and played the father of Jenny (played by Olivia Wilde) in NBC’s The Black Donnellys in 2007.

Some trivia about Kevin Conway includes his turning down of the role of Theoden in The Lord of the Rings so he could reprise the role of Buster Kilrain in Gods and Generals (2003), and the role went to Bernard Hill instead. Had he accepted, he would have worked with Karl Urban, who played Woodrow Call in Comanche Moon (2008), a prequel to Streets of Laredo (1995), in which Conway also appeared. He didn’t decide to pursue a career in acting until the age of 24, prior to which he worked as an IBM sales analyst. He also worked with another actor named Kevin Conway in The Outer Limits: Summit (1999).
