Cheryl Burke – Talks DWTS Departure

The professional dancer admitted that she burned bridges when she left DWTS. The process has been tougher than her divorce from actor Matthew Lawrence.

After she left the ABC dancing competition, Cheryl launched her podcast, Sex, Lies & Spray Tans. It’s one of the many celebrity podcasts in the industry.

It can be hard to break into the podcast world unless you have something different to offer. Cheryl’s platform has caused a rift between her and her former DWTS co-stars.

She appeared as a guest on Amy Robach and TJ Holmes’ podcast. She revealed that her podcast was a reason why she wasn’t invited to the Len Goodman tribute.

Cheryl Burke claims that her departure from Dancing with the Stars caused her a great deal of pain.

During the episode, Amy asked Cherly if she felt her exit from the show was more difficult than her divorce from Matthew Lawrence. Cheryl admitted that leaving the show was difficult since it was all she knew.

“Dancing with the Stars. I mean hands down. You can’t compare,” Cheryl revealed.

The show kickstarted her career. Cheryl Burke married Matthew Lawrence from 2019 to 2022. She was on DWTS for 26 seasons, ranging from 2006 to 2022. It made a significant impact on her life.

“That was my identity… I credit them for giving me a voice in general,” Cheryl said. “I think coming into my own and being able to stand on my own two feet, I credit Dancing with the Stars for that. And I think because they’ve seen me through it all… It’s hard. It’s hard.”

Professional Dancer Struggling After ABC Series

Cheryl Burke has had a difficult transition from professional dancer to podcast host. She shared that it’s been hard to book guests for her podcast. Many guests backed out because of her rift with Dancing with the Stars.

“I do know of some guests who have said yes to the show and then all of a sudden said no,” Cheryl confessed. “I don’t know who, what, when, how it all happened, but I can only assume, and my feeling is that someone who isn’t happy with the podcast may have been an influence.”
