Dancing With The Stars Judge Len Goodman’s Cause Of Death Revealed

Five months have passed since news broke that Dancing With The Stars head judge Len Goodman had died. And now the cause of his death has become known. Goodman’s death certificate revealed that the late British ballroom dancer and DWTS judge died after prostate cancer spread to his bones, according to TV Insider.

Len began his reign on Dancing With The Stars in 2005. And after the fan fave judge died at 78, Dancing With The Stars honored him. The premiere of DWTS featured the news that the Mirrorball Trophy had been renamed.

As part of the debut of its 32nd season last month, the dancing competition show revealed that the trophy that goes to the winner of DWTS has been renamed. And the DWTS winner from now on will receive the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy.

DWTS Judge Len Goodman Hid Cancer Battle

However, Goodman sought to hide his battle with cancer from fans. And when the Dancing With The Stars head judge died in a hospice in Tunbridge Wells, England, in April this year, his family surrounded him. Goodman’s wife Sue Barrett and son James survive him.

But the Dancing With The Stars judge began his health struggles with a cancerous tumor on his prostate gland removed in 2009. And that procedure was followed by skin cancer, which was removed from Goodman’s forehead in 2019. However, amid the season 31 semi-final of DWTS last year, Goodman revealed his plans to retire.

And during that episode, only five months prior to his death, Len shared, “It has been a huge pleasure to be part of such a wonderful show. But I’ve decided I want to spend more time with my grandchildren and my family.” And the DWTS judge added, “I cannot thank enough the family of Dancing With the Stars. It has been such a wonderful experience for me.”

However, although Goodman hid his cancer battle from fans, he did suggest that others “get checked up every year” through cancer screenings. And he praised modern medicine, noting that it has improved so much “that if you do get something, then hopefully they can catch it early and you have a good chance.”

The former Dancing With The Stars judge began his career at age 19. Born in London on April 25, 1944, Goodman turned to dancing when a physician suggested it as a method of therapy for an injured foot. However, Len then became a professional. And he won many awards, including the British Championships in Blackpool in his late twenties. In addition to DWTS, Goodman served as a judge on the British version of DWTS, Strictly Come Dancing.
