In March, Marci Miller gave birth to her first child, a daughter named Willett. Since DAYS tapes so many months ahead, Miller had already been on maternity leave for a while by then, but we were still seeing Abby on screen.

This week, that’s about to end. Miller’s on-screen maternity leave begins on Friday, May 21 as Abby will once again leave Salem. But for a change, Abby won’t be faking her death or carted off to a mental institution. Isn’t that a nice change of pace?

Abigail is set to leave Salem to have some rest and relaxation and clear her head. After all, the last few months have been anything but easy for her. At the beginning of the year, she learned that Chad (Billy Flynn) slept with Gwen (Emily O’Brien) and then got the shock of learning that Gwen is her half-sister. She hates the woman with a passion and just wanted her out of their lives. That led her and Gabi (Camila Banus) to kidnap Gwen, an ill-conceived plan from the start.

Eventually, she learned Gwen was pregnant with Chad’s child and was horrified. During a screaming match on the stairs, Abigail grabbed for Gwen, who then proceeded to fall down the stairs in classic pregnant woman soap opera style. Gwen already felt she had lost the baby but she blamed Abigail for her miscarriage. Abby swore up and down she didn’t purposely push Gwen and that the woman fell by accident.

It’s a pretty good bet that Abby will leave town to visit Jennifer (Cady McClain), who has been in New York ever since Laura’s (Jaime Lynn Bauer) death. Oddly enough, Gwen is the one who accidentally killed Laura Horton but she hasn’t paid for that as of yet.

With Abby gone, will Gwen go after Chad again? She’s certainly been getting closer to Jack (Matthew Ashford) and is bound to be his new favorite daughter by the time Abigail returns. Stay tuned to Days of Our Lives weekdays to see how this story plays out.
