Alison Sweeney, who is famous for her role as Sami Brady in “Days of Our Lives, shared an unfortunate news in her social media account. In her Instagram post where she posted a selfie with no makeup on, the daytime star reported, “So, I just got off the phone with my dermatologist.
Kind of a bummer, but turns out I need to have a small bump removed from my nose that came up positive for skin cancer.” She decided to share her diagnosis with the public for the purpose of inspiring others to be proactive in having themselves checked out.
“She assured me that we caught it early and I just wanted to share her advice,” Sweeney added. “Check your skin for any noticeable changes and ask your doctor about it! Even if it seems like nothing, let an expert decide. Early detection of skin cancer gives you the greatest chance for successful skin cancer treatment and prevents it from developing into something more complicated. And of course, use sunscreen (which I do!),” she continued.
This is a timely reminder especially since many people tend to ignore and even downplay the warning signs of cancer. The mere mention of cancer immediately strikes fear among people but what they fail to realize is that it is a preventable type of cancer. It is crucial to have one’s self checked especially during summer. There’s no such thing as being too careful. Inspect your skin for anything unusual and consult an expert right away. A few red flags to watch out for include unusual lumps, spots, or moles as well as rough and scaly patches on the skin.
Sweeney has portrayed the role Sami Brady no the NBC soap opera “Days of Our Lives” since 1993. She has appeared in “Family Man,” “Brand New Life,” “Friends,” and “Fear Factor.” She also hosted the reality TV show “The Biggest Loser” from 2007 to 2015. Her impeccable acting skills and excellent performance in both TV and the movies have helped her earn various accolades.
She won a Soap Opera Digest Award for Outstanding Villainess in 1996, 1998, and 1999. She nabbed the title as Outstanding Younger Lead Actress in 2001 and Outstanding Supporting Actress in 2005 for the Soap Opera Digest. Meanwhile, she was hailed as America’s Favorite Villain – Special Fan Award at the Daytime Emmy Awards in 2002. She won all these during her stint in “Days of Our Lives.”
