Days of Our Lives: Freddie Matthew SmithDays of Our Lives (DOOL) fan favorite, Freddie Smith (Sonny Kiriakis) was one-year older Thursday. Freddie celebrated his 32nd birthday.

Freddie Matthew Smith was born on March 19, 1988, to parents; Fred (father) and Renee Smith (mother) in Ashtabula, Ohio. He grew up as an only child but remains very close with two of his cousins.

He was known for avidly playing basketball until his senior year in high school when it was suggested by one of his friends that he take a theater art class. He attended and graduated from Edgewood Senior High School in 2006.

After leaving high school, Smith made a move to Los Angeles and began his acting career there in 2008. He made a cameo appearance in the paranormal series called Medium where he played a senior boy unaccredited during the episode.

Smith’s career continued to evolve as he took on numerous roles. He made an appearance in the short film called Weak Species which co-starred Erik Smith and the film Wish which was released in 2010. He also did commercials for companies such as; Taco Bell, Carl’s Jr, Kay Jewelers, McDonald’s and Verizon.

His career sparked even further when he joined the cast of The CW popular series 90210 in the recurring role of Marco in 2011. Marco was a gay soccer player who became involved with Teddy Montgomery (played by Trevor Donovan, a Days of Our Lives alum).

Smith’s impactful career got even more impactful when he landed the role of Jackson “Sonny” Kiriakis) on NBC’s Days of Our Lives. He became the first openly gay contracted character in the daytime soap opera. Smith received his first Daytime Emmy Award nomination in 2013 in the category of Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series, he won the same award in 2015. Afterward, he announced he was leaving the show. He rejoined the show in 2016.

His character took part in an iconic double Salem wedding. Smith is currently engaged to his longtime girlfriend, Alyssa Tabit and they are set to get married in 2021. While appearing on the NBC daytime soap opera, he can also be found on YouTube with his own podcast hosted alongside his fiancé.
