Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith began the New Year by celebrating 25 years of marriage. And though the past year offered both highs and lows, both husband and wife have shown their determination to pick up the pieces and keep going. But after Will’s infamous Oscars slap, the couple does face challenges.

Jada Pinkett And Will Smith – Mark 25th Wedding Anniversary 

Will Smith tied the knot with Jada Pinkett 25 years ago. However, the unconventional couple has shared that they decided not to celebrate wedding anniversaries. But after a marriage lasting a quarter of a century, the lack of a celebration doesn’t mean their relationship suffers.

And on a recent episode of Red Table Talk, Jada explained why she and Will decided not to celebrate wedding anniversaries. After tying the knot December 31st, 1997, in Baltimore, Jada feels that their relationship has become more of a partnership than a marital arrangement. “It’s more of a life partnership, so it’s not steeped in marital,” she shared, according to Essence. 

As a result, Jada noted that she and Will stopped celebrating December 31st as an anniversary. And she noted, “We don’t celebrate that day anymore in that sense because the context of our union is different.” Because the date occurs just before the New Year, Will and Jada usually aren’t even in the same location.

Will and Jada tend to prefer different activities on New Year’s Day. For instance, the actress revealed that her husband typically enjoys going off an adventure. And in contrast, Jada prefers staying at home. As a result, she decided to set him free.

“Usually, Will, on New Year’s, likes to be on an adventure in the world somewhere. There’s no telling where he’s gonna be. And I like to be inside. I don’t wanna be out in the world. He now has the freedom to go and have an awesome adventure,” she noted.

However, Jada isn’t the only one in this marriage who feels willing to discuss their relationship. And Will has agreed that he sees their relationship more like a partnership than a marriage. “We don’t even say we’ve married anymore. We refer to ourselves as life partners,” he said.

But the actor also shared that nothing will destroy their bond. And he explained, “You get into that space where you realize you are with somebody for the rest of your life. There are no deal breakers. There’s nothing she could do — ever. Nothing that would break our relationship. She has my support till death, you know what I mean,” he added. “And it feels so good to get to that space where you’re not complaining, worrying, and demanding that a person be a certain thing.”
