Days of our Lives spoilers reveal the horrible possibility that a past super couple is headed for a reconciliation. Why is that an awful eventuality in some fans’ books?

Normally, reuniting a couple that has been a fan fave is a cause for celebration. Here are some terrific DOOL examples of this phenomenon: Jarlena 36.0, Jack and Jen 45.0, and Ejami 5 ½.0.

But I’m here to represent the fans who really, really, don’t want to see Elani 2.0 transpire.

Days of our Lives Spoilers – It’s time for a Salem shakeup for Elani

The biggest reason I have against an Elani reunion is Lani (Sal Stowers) herself. Not that she’s done anything wrong per se, but I’m hoping against hope that TPTB gives her some dignity and common sense. It doesn’t look like that will happen.

How in the world could Lani take back Eli (Lamon Archey) after he’s been foolish enough to fall for her arch-enemy? Gabi (Camila Banus) is the reason that Lani sacrificed her marriage to Eli, and what did he do? Take up with the minx as soon as Lani was gone. Wow, loyalty is an underrated thing apparently.

DOOL Spoilers – Gabi is a temptress but Eli should have said no

To his credit, Gabi is an uber-talented manipulator who has fooled many, many people. She was able to maneuver her way into Julie’s (Susan Seaforth Hayes) pacemaker and basically control it like a turbo-charged blender.

That’s the reason, incredible as it is, that Lani chose to dump handsome but myopic Eli at the alter. Some fans think that Lani’s choice was noble and heroic. Others find it inconceivably dunderheaded. Be that as it may, it’s led Elani to where they are today, with a reconciliation a likely possibility as soon as the truth about Gabi’s treacherousness comes out.

Days of our Lives Spoilers – Why can’t Lani be the bigger person and make the right choice?

Still, how can Lani look at Eli and not think about his betrayal? He is ready to marry Gabi, just as he was once ready to marry Lani. Won’t Lani see him and Gabi together in her mind when she’s with the cad?

Eli deserves Gabi, and the bed of thorns they’ve made together, in my opinion. How Lani could ever trust him again is unfathomable given his decision to trust one of Salem’s most shady characters. He is grateful to her for donating her late husband Stefan’s (Brandon Barash) heart to Julie, so maybe that’s clouding his judgment.

Rafe and Lani would be a much better match, and they’ve shown that they have a bond and a common perspective, as when they tended to baby David together.
