Days of Our Lives Taking An Olympic Size Break

days of our lives olympics breakI started watching the summer Olympics during the 1972 Games in Munich and have every year since including this year’s pandemic-delayed Games in Tokyo. I love the spectacle of the international gathering and the competitions. But, I’ve watched Days of Our Lives since 1970. My heart resides in Salem.

The two-weeks when “my show” is preempted reminds me of just how much it means to me; it’s one piece of normalcy in what has been an anything but normal past year and a half. As I write this, there’s one more week of viewing swimming, track and field and gymnastics and one more week I won’t be able to connect with my longtime DOOL family. I, and likely you, deserve a medal for holding on so patiently!

Go for the Gold

With the gifting and receiving of medals airing repeatedly on my television and weighing heavily on my mind during this DOOL down time, I’m awarding an imaginary trio (Gold, Silver, Bronze) of winners to the competitors from Team Horton, Team Brady, Team Hernandez and Team DiMera for the storylines I most look forward to rejoining. Thankfully, there’s only a temporary timeout in the action! Here’s a look at my winners. What do you think? Did I stick the landing?

Bronze Medal; a ‘recent’ development

A relative newcomer to Days of Our Lives’ Salem, Chanel (Raven Bowens) finds herself at the center of two intriguing will-they-or-won’t-they scenarios: will she and Allie (Lindsay Arnold) physically commit to their undeniable attraction OR will the entrepreneur-baker be cooking up something with Eli (Lamon Archey)? BTW, how are we liking the recast of Chanel?

Silver Lining For Days of Our Lives

Coming in second, because of all kinds of future possibilities they may offer, is the not-so-odd-couple Xander (Paul Telfer) and Gwen (Emily O’Brien) on NBC Days. Can they stay off of Julie’s (Susan Seaforth Hayes) sofa? Can they continue to cover up the real reason Dr. Schneider’s (Michael Lowry) pill pushing days are permanently over? The two would seem to have a number of options with the $1 million Xander received from Sami (Alison Sweeney) in blackmail money.

And the winner is …

What else could it be? Ben (Robert Scott Wilson) and Ciara (Victoria Konefal) bring home the top prize here; they’ve earned it. But why, oh why, did the PTB at DOOL have Ben nab Ciara just before her wedding to Theo (Cameron Johnson) disguised as a limousine driver rather than on a motorcycle just as Beauregard “Bo” Aurelius Brady did with Fancy Face nearly 40 years ago?

So, what or who are your medal winners? Let me know in the comments below!
