Abigail Deveraux DiMera (Marci Miller) is a beloved legacy character. She is also half of the popular on-screen Days of Our Lives pairing with Chad (Billy Flynn) with their squish name being ‘Chabby’. The show has decided to kill off this legacy character and we can’t help but wonder why? Now, we have some answers.
Days Of Our Lives Spoilers – Head Writer Explains His Decision
Head Writer Ron Carlivati explains his decision to kill off Abigail in the latest Soap Opera Digest magazine. He told the publication, “Even though they’re fictional, it hurts anytime we kill somebody. In this instance, it was mostly for a practical reason because Marci was not going to be available to us full-time on contract and it made it challenging to tell story for Chad and Abigail. So, we didn’t really have the option to have Abigail around, and then that always becomes a problem when one-half of a couple is not going to be available to you.” He went on to list out some possible options that could have been explored but noting that the options were limited it was ultimately down to the most heartbreaking one, having Abigail murdered and exploring a murder mystery on the show.
There was also the possibility of recasting or bringing back the Daytime Emmy award winning-actress, Kate Mansi once again for the role. Carlivati shared with SOD, “Well, that is an option because there have been two successful Abigails that have been embraced by the audience. Kate has been willing to come back, but may not necessarily want to come back on contract, so you risk being in the exact same position that then Kate leaves and what do we do?”

DOOL Spoilers – The Cast Got Amazing Material To Work With
It was really a tough choice for Carlivati and the writing team. But, it gives the rest of the cast some amazing emotional material to work with and possibly some Daytime Emmy reels for next year. And, with daytime soap operas especially in Salem where there is Dr. Rolf (William Utay) nobody ever really stays dead. Carlivati noted that the death took place in such a way that the usual back-from-the-dead storyline could happen at some point. What do you think, fans?
