Soap operas were honored as CBS aired the 48th Annual Daytime Emmys on Friday night and several of your favorite stars took home gold statuettes. The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences seemed to want to spread the wealth, as each of the four soaps had wins in the major categories.
The ceremony was pre-recorded, with each nominee taping an acceptance speech either from home or from on-stage, and the speeches were edited in seamlessly when the winners were announced. However, things didn’t seem authentic to those who knew the speeches were taped a week ago, and the actors were doing just that — acting — as they accepted their awards.
Although there was an audience for the show, it was quite small and the performers didn’t jump up from the audience when hearing their names — they just came out from backstage and took an award that was sitting on a stool for them. It was definitely a sign of the COVID times when Hollywood is still trying to be careful. Perhaps next year things will be back to normal completely and a television network will decide to air a night honoring daytime once again. Read on for a list of winners below.
