‘Descendants’ does not lack Disney characters to pick from, I can tell you that. For one thing we’ve seen Uma, Ursula’s feisty daughter, Maleficent‘s daughter, and now we’re going to be getting a glimpse into Wonderland with the addition of Rita Ora’s Queen of Hearts and Kylie Cantrall’s Red.

‘Descendants’s’ Lead Characters Open Up About Starring in the Hit Disney Franchise

As we’ve already seen through the very musical trailer, Uma has moved up from her days as the leader of the VKs to become the principal of Auradon Prep. In her role, she decides to unite all kingdoms, including Wonderland, setting off a chain of events that take place for the rest of the movie.

Speaking on her return to the franchise, which she joined in the second season and quickly stole the hearts of fans, she revealed that she was at first apprehensive of the move.

“I was apprehensive to revisit the Descendants world at first, because losing Cam [Cameron Boyce] was the first heartbreak I’ve ever experienced,” she said in an exclusive statement to PEOPLE. “But once I saw how excited the new generation of kids were, it reminded me of myself when we created the original films.”

Kylie Cantrall also opened up about her feelings leading this spinoff, and how she derived strength from having her HSMTMTS co-star Reneé join her for this new ride.

“I remember telling Dara on the last day of High School Musical, ‘See you in two weeks. Can’t believe we’re going on our next journey together.’ It was just so comforting knowing that she was going to be there and that I had that buddy to go into it with.”

“She’s the most special person and makes everyone around her feel so loved and special, so it felt great,” she added. “It’s really funny, too, we talked about how I’m a villain in High School Musical, and we have an interesting dynamic. Then, now, the roles are reversed in Descendants.”

In the movie, Cantrall’s character Red teams up with Cinderella and Prince Charming’s daughter Chloe (played by Malia Baker) to travel to the past and keep her mother, the Queen of Hearts, from becoming an evil queen. Imagine the drama and the magic, with Broadway-level soundtrack to match.
