47th Daytime Emmy Awards Canceled Due To Coronavirus (COVID-19) – No Award Ceremony

Some shocking news recently circulated. The 47th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards which was scheduled for June 12-14 has officially been canceled. The coronavirus is certainly affecting more than just people as several events have either been pushed back or canceled due to the spread of the illness.

Reports circulating now confirms that the event will shine a lot less bright this year. The 47th installment of the awards ceremony has been canceled in light of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences chairman Terry O’Reilly stated on Thursday in a letter to NATAS members,

“There are just too many unknowns right now, not the least of which is whether we would actually be permitted to stage an event in June involving more than one thousand live participants. With deadlines to make significant financial commitments upon us, it seems irresponsible to move forward as we have in the past.”

Also, President Adam Sharp is working on, “alternative ideas to celebrate those who would normally have received their Emmys at the Daytime Awards,” O’Reilly added. “Watch for details in the weeks to come.”

The last installment of the event was held in May of 2019 at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena, California. The event was live-streamed on YouTube and EmmyOnline.tv. The stars gathered for the ceremony as per usual. The winners in each category were announced live via the streaming platforms for last year.

What does this cancellation mean for the stars who have already submitted their Emmy reels? We are yet to find out. We are hoping alternate ideas to celebrate those who have worked really hard in the previous year on soaps will include an actual award being given out.

Over the years, stars have been acknowledged for their outstanding work on the daytime soap operas. The usual categories include Best Writing Team, Best Directing Team, Outstanding Drama, Outstanding Younger Actor, Outstanding Younger Actress, Outstanding Supporting Actor, Outstanding Supporting Actress, Outstanding Lead Actor, Outstanding Lead Actress and more. This year the category for Younger Actor and Actress was supposed to be merged.
