General Hospital News Update: GH Alum Coby Ryan McLaughlin Pays Tribute To A Dear Friend

ABC General Hospital spoilers reveal that alum Coby Ryan McLaughlin is one of the many people who is mourning the death of legendary rocker Eddie Van Halen. On Tuesday, October 6 Van Halen passed away in LA following an arduous battle with cancer, surrounded by family and friends.

McLaughlin posted a tribute on social media to the virtuoso guitarist, who he called an idol and a friend.

It is clear by the tone and length of his Instagram post that McLaughlin’s loss was real and deep. He wrote: “They say never meet your heroes…. well, in the case of this guy, that was total bull****. We were only pals for a short time, but I’ve yet to meet a kinder, gentler, more talented soul on this plane of existence.”

He went on, “When we were hanging out, he was a bit of a mess. Searching for something that at that time, he had yet to reach. We sat and chatted for hours about music, what it meant to be a ‘Rock star’, and the weight and responsibility of it all. Tying yourself to people, and the artistic journey that once started and became successful could never be left. ‘Careful what you wish for’ he’d say to me often… he got it.”

McLaughlin continued in his tribute, “He knew that all the fame and money in the world didn’t mean f*** all if you didn’t have something bigger to tie it to. Love. Family. Children. Legacy. And that’s exactly what he leaves behind… a son that he was able to pass down his legacy to and love expressed by a legion of millions whom he touched with his musical genius. RIP, Eddie. You were and will forever be one of the greats…..”

On the ABC sudser, McLaughlin played evildoer Shiloh Archer, a cult leader and menace to the human race. Shiloh is presumed dead but some fans would not mind seeing the bad guy stir up more trouble. Before he left town for a watery grave, Shiloh was involved in recruiting impressionable young women like Kristina Corinthos (Lexie Ainsworth) to his cult and he was killed by her sister, Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco).
