General Hospital spoilers tease no one was suspecting it when Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) pleaded with her son, Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell), to keep paying Dex Heller (Evan Hofer) to work for Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard). The move was completely out of left field for Carly.

Michael never wanted any part of Sonny’s business and she knows that. Still, she’s willing to ask him for this favor anyway. In fact, until just a couple of weeks ago upon Willow Corinthos (Katelyn MacMullen) urging him to lay down his arms, Michael was planning to take his father down and throw him behind bars for the rest of his life.

He hates the man that Sonny has become and loathes the criminal empire he hides behind. Now, his mother is asking him to overlook all of his personal feelings in favor of protecting the man that he hates so much. Will he do it? Anything for Carly.

After all, he already thinks he’s paying Dex to be his enforcer. But the last thing Sonny wants to hear is that Carly thinks he is a danger to himself. Clearly, he’s been slipping as of late.

Fans have wondered how he hasn’t even caught onto the fact that Dex was betraying him the entire time. Has Sonny grown soft? Is Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) to blame? Regardless, if Sonny finds out what Carly has put Michael up to, he will be mortified.

Carly wants Michael and Dex to work together as a supplement for Jason Morgan (Steve Burton). It’s been a major hindrance for Sonny that he has no right-hand man to rely on. Initially, Michael balked at Carly’s plan, noting that Brick (Stephen A. Smith) could be of help to Sonny. But Carly is right, Brick is based on the West Coast and Sonny needs help here and now.

This is the perfect opportunity for Michael to step in and help with the family business while protecting everyone’s interests. Acting as the brain for Dex, they could make a formidable team.

However, Dex has already proven he’s no replacement for Jason. In fact, he has screwed up multiple times. For some reason, Sonny keeps giving him second chances. Maybe that’s because he doesn’t have a better alternative to turn to. Could Michael assume that role and do a better job than Dex can?

Believe it or not, Michael has been under a bit of stress for the last few months. His wife nearly died, and she’s not completely out of the woods, yet, despite receiving the bone marrow transplant.

Michael has been living in a state of fight or flight for the better part of the last year and there doesn’t seem to be any end in sight. Could we really blame the guy for taking Carly up on her offer?
