General Hospital (GH) spoilers divulge that today on the ABC soap two characters, along with fans, had to face the horrible reality of a newborn child’s death, a terrible ending to a story at any time of the year, but especially now.
Many, many fans are upset, livid and bewildered as to why the show chose to tell this dreadful, heart rending story in the middle of the holiday season. What purpose does it serve when they tune in to escape reality and feel good for a few minutes out of the day?
Fans have not held back on social media with their displeasure about the show’s choice to go this route, with many expressing the belief that they thought for sure the soap would deliver a holiday miracle storyline. Instead we were left crying and bereft after watching two incredibly talented actors deliver masterful performances.
After the show aired one of the actors reached out to fans by tweeting out his thoughts.
General Hospital Spoilers – Why Show A Dreadful Plot At Christmas?
Johnny Wactor and Sofia Mattsson play Brando Corbin and Sasha Gilmore, and today the characters pulled the plug on the ventilator that kept their days old, brain dead child alive. The scenes that followed were heartbreaking. I looked away several times during the episode and don’t mind saying I teared up, and that is a testament to the enormous skill brought forth by Wactor and Mattsson. They deserve Emmys.
This is what Wactor tweeted: “I want to thank everyone for being so invested in watching Liam’s journey. It’s obviously an incredibly painful storyline that has left many of you with the question, simply put, “Why?” Why tell a story of two new parents, with a shaky foundation, but who have hope to maybe be something together, and then take away the greatest gift they’ve ever had before they even get to truly cherish and nurture that gift, their baby boy Liam? Why this story during one of, if not the roughest stretch of time in many our personal lives? Why during the holidays?”

He then shared his thoughts about the plot and addressed the upset fans are voicing. At one point in his extended tweet he continued: “Life is precious and fragile and death, although inevitable for everyone, can come unexpected.”
He added, “Again, I’m so thankful to all of our fans for watching, the kind praise and truly just honored to have such sparked such fervent conversation with this story. Hope to bring everyone some undisputed JOY in the storylines to follow. Much love. And happy holidays.”
Kudos to him for addressing the fury.

It should be noted that Mattsson herself was recently pregnant. As many fans have noted, asking her to play a grieving, tormented mother now is a questionable decision on the part of the show.
In the end baby Liam was carried off by the late Mike Corbin (Max Gail) and that was a bittersweet scene. We want to know what you think about this controversial storyline, tell us your thoughts below.

Regardless of what the actor feels, I don't feel loosing Liam was an appropriate story line especially for this time of year. In fact, Brando/Sasha could have gotten together without the pregnancy story line. GH needs to be renamed Dark Shadows Revisited.
Yes, it was a hearbreaking story line but I had 2 friends who both lost their babies on Christmas eve. So sad but it does happen in real life. Kudos to the actors who handled this so well.
I think that this show did not think about the sad reality for some people. Unfortunately, this is not fantasy for me. We lost our little girl in that fashion so I couldn't watch because it brought all of those real feelings back. It's been 21 years since we lost our little girl and that pain never goes away. However, to see it portrayed on a TV show it's heart breaking. I just feel if they thought about the fans who have experienced infant loss then it wouldn't have been done. I understand that we need to shed light on these things but definitely not at the holidays and maybe not so graphically. Cause again unfortunately it's a reality for many.
