Specifically, Michael will remember his dangerous childhood and question whether Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) is truly innocent in the Pentonville attacks.

Key Takeaways

  • Michael recalls his dangerous childhood.
  • Sonny’s mob past raises suspicions.
  • Michael doubts his father’s innocence.
  • Carly continues defending Sonny.
  • Michael worries about Donna’s safety.

Michael Had A Frequently Dangerous Childhood

Longtime General Hospital fans will remember that Michael had a dangerous childhood.

During mob wars, Sonny sometimes sent his family to his private island to keep them safe.

However, hiding away wasn’t always practical, especially during the school year.

Eventually, Michael’s mother, Carly Spencer (Laura Wright), sent him and his brother Morgan Corinthos (Bryan Craig) to boarding school.

After enduring several dangerous situations, Carly wanted to get her boys as far away from Sonny’s mob lifestyle as possible.

When Michael was younger, he and Kristina Corinthos-Davis (Kate Mansi) even ran away together, hoping to escape the violence surrounding their family.

Then there was the time Michael became so fed up with Sonny that he tried to take him down himself.

Michael hired Dex Heller (Evan Hofer) to infiltrate Sonny’s organization as a mole, and we all know how that turned out!

Michael Has Watched Sonny Struggle To Leave The Mob

Michael has watched Sonny remain involved in organized crime for as long as he can remember.

Although Sonny has talked about leaving the mob behind, those attempts have never seemed to last.

Somehow, he always ends up right back where he started.

That’s why Michael isn’t particularly surprised that Sonny is being blamed for the brutal Pentonville attack that nearly killed Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota).

Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) was also seriously injured during the incident.

To Michael, this looks like another example of the violence that has surrounded Sonny for decades.

Even when Sonny tries to leave the mob, the mob never seems to leave him!

Michael Doesn’t Believe Sonny Is Innocent

Michael also has serious doubts about Sonny’s innocence.

He doesn’t understand why Carly continues defending her ex-husband, especially after everything their family has endured.

Although Carly and Sonny have been divorced for years, she still believes he had nothing to do with the Pentonville beatings.

Carly supports Sonny’s claim that someone framed him for the attacks.

Michael, however, isn’t nearly as convinced.

His childhood experiences have taught him that Sonny’s criminal connections can have devastating consequences, even for people who aren’t directly involved.

And that brings Michael to another concern.

Michael Worries About Donna’s Safety

Michael knows Sonny would never intentionally hurt his younger sister, Donna Corinthos.

However, that doesn’t mean Donna is safe from the dangers surrounding her father.

Michael remembers what it was like growing up with constant threats, mob wars, and the possibility that Sonny’s enemies could strike at any moment.

He may consider speaking with Carly about having Donna stay with him occasionally.

His concern wouldn’t be that Sonny might hurt Donna himself.

Instead, Michael would want to protect his sister from anyone seeking revenge against Sonny.

After everything Michael experienced growing up, he certainly doesn’t want Donna facing the same dangers.

But will Carly understand his concerns, or will Michael’s doubts about Sonny create another family conflict?

Annemarie’s Take

I can understand why Michael has doubts about Sonny. He grew up surrounded by mob violence, and those memories aren’t going to disappear simply because Sonny insists he’s innocent.

However, I don’t think Michael should automatically assume his father ordered the Pentonville attacks just because of his past.

Sonny has made plenty of mistakes, but that doesn’t mean he’s responsible for every crime committed in Port Charles.

I also think Michael has a legitimate reason to worry about Donna. He’s experienced firsthand how dangerous Sonny’s enemies can be.

Still, I’d rather see Michael focus on uncovering the truth instead of allowing old resentment to cloud his judgment.

What do you think? Is Michael justified in doubting Sonny’s innocence, or should he stand by his father until there’s proof?
