General Hospital Spoilers: Would You Watch GH Or Your Other Favorite Soaps Played Out On Zoom?

General Hospital spoilers tease that there is a possibility that General Hospital, or your other favorite soaps if you watch more than one like many viewers do, could find a way to still make new episodes and keep the actors and actresses safe, although it would be a little different – sort of like many of your favorite talk show hosts and newscasters have been doing – virtually, by using a platform such as Zoom, which allows many players to connect, or Skype, which would be a little more difficult to film a scene on.

General Hospital News – The COVID-19 Crisis Has Shut Down The Television And Film Production Studios For The Time Being

As fans are undoubtedly aware of, the COVID-19 crisis has shut down the television and film production studios for the time being, and the actors, writers, producers, and camera and other set personnel have all been on lockdown to their homes except for trips to the grocery store and even those are limited in the Hollywood area.

Only businesses deemed essential by the governor of California, Governor Gavin Newsom, are allowed to be open and unfortunately, the entertainment industry is not deemed an essential business, even though it brings so much to the economy of Southern California!

Production has been halted on all four daytime dramas, although some have more filmed than others – the CBS soaps, The Young and The Restless and The Bold and The Beautiful have already run out of new episodes, while NBC’s Days of Our Lives have enough to last through October, and General Hospital has been able to pad their filmed episodes with flashbacks and show a previously aired episode on Fridays, which has extended their library of episodes through June.

Originally, William DeVry, who plays Julian Jerome, had tweeted that they only had enough to air through early May, but then Nancy Lee Grahn, who plays Alexis Davis, indicated that there may be much more than that, or at least through May 21 or 22. She had mentioned this on her podcast, which dropped a few days before “Flashback Fridays” were announced.

Since that time, General Hospital personnel have announced that with a combination of “Flashback Fridays” and new episodes padded with flashbacks, that there would be mostly new episodes until sometime in June. Nancy Lee Grahn had an idea of how to use the online conference platform “Zoom” to make new episodes of GH, and the other daytime dramas could use this technology just as well.

GH News – How Would This Exactly Work?

Nancy said, “I think it would be cool to have the show written so it could be done on Zoom – why couldn’t we have a great scene, right now, with good writing and good acting – Port Charles in isolation!” People may not want the citizens of Port Charles to play out the COVID-19 drama, but there have been several different times in GH history where outbreaks have been employed in storylines – Lassa Fever, for instance, and Jerry Jacks (Sebastian Roché) tainting the Port Charles water supply where people became ill and some short-term characters died before a cure was developed just a few years ago.

Maurice Benard, who plays Sonny Corinthos, who was Nancy’s podcast guest agreed that writing episodes adapted to the General Hospital actors broadcasting from home in character was a good idea – Maurice said, “It would be difficult in the pauses (he probably meant the commercial breaks or pauses in dialogue with other characters) and we’d have to get used to it – but I think we can probably do it”.

Perhaps actor Ronn Moss could be invited for a guest appearance to represent the Corinthos family’s infamous kitchen table centerpiece – Nah, just kidding! Of course, how the show ultimately would proceed would be up to ABC and GH producer Frank Valentini.

This would be an idea to employ before the lockdown restrictions are lifted; once they are lifted enough for the studios to at least be available with restrictions like grocery stores have – five people per 1000 square feet and no closer than six feet apart – some fancy film splice work could be done, with actors acting out their parts separately in separate scenes spliced together if need be like is done with scenes where identical twins are played by the same actor, appearing to be in the same room at the same time and interacting with each other.

General Hospital Spoilers – But Would Fans Watch “Zoomed” Episodes?

The big question is – would fans watch “Zoomed” episodes taped from online and broadcast on television, where the actors would need to be in character from their own homes? It would give fans a glimpse into how they live and what their houses look like, much as Nancy is doing in her podcast; they have already been Tweeting, Facebook-live-ing and Instagramming from their homes in many cases to keep up interaction with fans.

Until restrictions are lifted enough to at least have the studios open with precautions, this may eventually be the only way fans can watch new episodes, allowing key daytime drama characters to “work from home” and allowing new storylines to be broadcast until the production studios are at least able to be safely employed.
