GH, DOOL, B&B and Y&R Ratings On The Rise Since Coronavirus (COVID-19) Quarantine!

Did the coronavirus (COVID-19) do more harm than good to our daytime dramas? One would say it’s possible as the shows had to shut down production to limit the spread of the virus and keep many others safe. So far, a number of persons have been infected and a large number of persons have died as a result of this virus worldwide. While it’s quite possible the virus will continue to affect production and we’re not sure when they will resume working again, we’re happy to hear of the latest happenings regarding the ratings.

Last week, we heard that The Bold and the Beautiful after being on air for thirty-three years finally topped the ratings for the first time in all major demos. The Young and the Restless has been holding down the number one spot for many years and in the latest ratings, they’ve regained the top spot.

This past week, there was a surge in the ratings. Due to persons not being able to go to work, school or having to limit face-to-face outdoor activities, the ratings may have increased significantly for all four soaps according to the latest ratings report.

A vast majority of persons are stuck at home and what better thing for them to do than to tune into their favorite daytime soap operas. For the week of March 23, the ratings went skyrocket high. This is the week when most of America went into quarantine. Reports say that both General Hospital and The Bold and the Beautiful had their best numbers in the past two years while Days of Our Lives brought forth their strongest ratings in more than a year. The Young and the Restless, however, surged right back to the top.

The rating report relay that B&B averaged 3.66 million viewers which is the show’s best week since March 23, 2018. GH, on the other hand, had 2.57 million viewers, its strongest ratings since March 19, 2018. Days had 2.24 million viewers, and this is its best ratings since February 18, 2019. The Young and the Restless which topped all the shows gained 4.21 million viewers which is its best rating since April 26, 2018. The report also confirmed that primetime television experienced a rating surge as well.

This is good news; it means our soaps still have a place in everyone’s heart. Congratulations to all four soap operas on the good work.
