Hallmark Channel’s much-loved Countdown to Christmas has already taken off with new festive treats coming all the time. This weekend sees the new, original movie A Holiday in Harlem starring Denzel Washington’s daughter and a star in her own right, Olivia Washington. Fans have seen Olivia in Mr. Robot and The Little Things, among others and will now see her join the list of Hallmark stars.

According to Hallmark’s official synopsis, the movie tells the story of jet-setting executive Jazmin Carter (Washington) as she heads back home to Harlem for a quick visit over the holidays. The visit comes after her grandmother Mama Belle (Tina Lifford) has turned away her normal gift delivery, as she expects “presence over presents” this year.

However, when Mama Belle is injured, Jazmin agrees to stay in the neighborhood. Meanwhile, she also takes over co-chairing their block’s annual Christmas Jamboree with her old best friend, Caleb (Will Adams). In her normal working life, Jazmin is a successful corporate fixer and she expects the job to be easy, but soon finds that she has a lot to learn about the community and her heart.

In an interview with TV Insider, included at the end of this article, Olivia describes her character, saying, “She’s kind of a fish out of water in her own home,” adding, “It’s like, this is the place that grew me, but how will I fit in here [now]?”

Cast of A Holiday in Harlem

Besides Olivia Washington as Jazmin, Will Adams (The Oval) plays the role of her old best friend, Caleb. Tina LIfford (Queen Sugar, Babe) plays Jazmin’s grandmother, Mama Belle. Other cast members include Michelle Liu Coughlin as Amy and dL Sams (Dietland, The Fever and the Fret, Midnights) as Coach Armstrong. Also starring is Los Jones as Eric and Teren Carter as Sam.

Meanwhile, behind the scenes, Michael Goldstein, Alexandre Coscas and Charles Murray are executive producers. Producers of the movie are Andrew Gernhard, Jason Sallee, Dustin Rikert and Colin Theys. Frank Kuzler is a co-producer while Keith Powell directs the movie from a script by Monique Matthews.
