As mentioned above, Daniel Lissing’s character, Jack Thornton, passed away in season 5 of When Calls the Heart. While that series still continues, Lissing has now made a comeback, along with controversial actress, Lori Loughlin, in a spinoff from the family-friendly drama series.
After Loughlin spent some time in prison for her part in the college admissions scandal, the actress recently made a comeback to the screen in the GAC Family spinoff of When Calls the Heart, titled When Hope Calls. In fact, in a Christmas special, both Lori and Daniel appeared in the two-part season premiere.
Previous to starring with Loughlin in When Calls the Heart, Lissing had recurring roles on The Rookie and S.W.A.T., along with a number of Christmas films, including A Christmas Star.

The List had the opportunity to speak to Daniel about his recent projects and working with Lori, both before and after her scandal and their return for When Hope Calls: A Country Christmas. It turns out Loughlin used her fame as an actress to get Daniel to return for the premiere of the show’s latest season. She spoke to Lissing and pitched him the idea and they, in turn, spoke to the producers about it. However, as his character had died in the previous show, it had to make sense.

The producers loved the idea and he was able to return for one more appearance as Mountie Jack, in what he described as “a really beautiful scene” that was shared between their characters. According to Daniel, her actions represent who Loughlin is. He went on to describe her and their co-star Erik Krakow as “amazing women” from whom he learned a lot.
“Lori and I worked together for five years, and we became close during that time. We really got to know each other as friends and as people,” he told The List, adding, “When you are working with someone for so long and when you’re in the trenches together on set, doing 16-hour days or whatever it is in the middle of winter, you form a bit [of] a bond and you really get to know that person quite intimately.”
Lissing went on to explain that Lori treats everyone, both on set and in life as well, with “kindness and respect.” He said he really admires her as an actor and that it was great working with her.
Season 2 of When Hope Calls starring Daniel Lissing and Lori Loughlin is currently airing on GAC Family.
