Hallmark Channel news reveals the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has forced the network to shut down the production of Home & Family as well as its signature original movies. This information comes around the same time as soap operas, talk shows, reality TV and primetime television shows also halting production. Keep reading to get the details.
Home & Family Shuts Down Production
According to Deadline, The Crown Media Family Networks has shut down production for Home & Family. The series is a popular daytime show hosted by Debbie Matenopoulos and Cameron Mathison. The Universal City set will go dark beginning Monday, March 16. No definite end date has been announced, but it will be for at least two weeks.
To fill in the time slot, Home & Family reruns will air until production resumes.
Hallmark Channel News: Original Movies Not Being Filmed
The network has also announced that in addition to Home & Family, Hallmark Channel’s signature original movies have been shut down. The films have locations throughout the United States. There are also some filming that takes place internationally.
Crown Media Family Networks Releases Statement
Hallmark Channel news reveals Crown Media Family Networks has released an official statement. Due to the spread of coronavirus, the network is putting the health and safety of cast, crew, and guests first. The statement indicates that health and lives are a top priority, which is why this decision was made.
“The earliest a new episode could be taped is March 30, though no decision has been made about when production will resume. We plan to air encore episodes at this time, and we will continue to monitor the situation with the CDC and state officials to determine the best time to return and produce new episodes…”
Coronavirus Impacts Many TV Shows
Besides Home & Family, there are many other shows that have halted production. Days of Our Lives and General Hospital are temporarily suspending filming. Reality TV has come to a standstill and even primetime series’ have called off work for the time being.

Some are taking it week by week while others will not resume production for one month or longer. Of course, these can always change depending on whether the coronavirus pandemic improves or worsens. While some viewers are upset about production interruptions, it will likely not affect airing for most shows. Besides, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
