Hallmark Channel news reveals General Hospital alum is celebrating right now. His newest film with the network, Christmas at the Plaza got crazy ratings. It even did better than the Friends Thanksgiving special and football. That’s a lot to be thankful for!
About Christms at the Plaza
As previously reported, Christmas at the Plaza follows a woman named Jessica (Elizabeth Henstridge), who works as an archival historian. She is in a stale relationship and as she goes into the holiday season, she gets a job creating a Christmas-themed exhibition at the legendary Plaza Hotel.
Also working at the hotel is a man named Nick (Ryan Paevey), a charming and dashing decorator in charge of decking out the place. They end up having to work together, but also spend time enjoying Christmas traditions.
By the end of the movie, Jessica has a tough choice to make. Does she stay in her predictable, but fizzling and unsatisfying relationship? Or does she take a bold chance on the decorator?
Thanksgiving: Trading Football for Hallmark Movies
Nearly everyone loves Hallmark movies and even though history pairs turkey with football, it seems that might be changing. Christmas at the Plaza topped the cable ratings chart on Thanksgiving. It beat out both ESPN’s football games as well as the Friends Thanksgiving special.
According to the Nielson ratings, the movie scored a 0.5 rating for adults 18-49 and had 3 million viewers. The college football game had a 0.4 rating with 1.35 million people watching.
However, this isn’t the first time that the network has scored big numbers.
Hallmark Channel News: Big Numbers
Alison Sweeney (ex-Sami Brady, Days of Our Lives) starred in The Irrestible Blueberry Farm in 2016. It brought in record debut ratings. Also, Jack Wagner (ex-Frisco Jones, General Hospital) and Kristina Wagner (ex-Felicia Jones, General Hospital) scored big with When Calls the Heart, which is now entering season 7 and has a Christmas special coming out.
General Hospital Alum is Thankful
Hallmark Channel news revealed that in an interview with Soap Opera Digest, Paevey was grateful to have the opportunity to work with the feel-good network. He considers everyone there not only friends, but family. When he left GH, he didn’t have another gig lined. Just like many Hallmark movie plots, it seems that fate stepped in and created a miracle for him. He was grateful then, and he is even more grateful now.
Congratulations to Ryan Paevey and the entire Hallmark Channel family on this major accomplishment!
