Hallmark actress Heather Hemmens grew up in the woods surrounding Waldo, near Belfast, Maine. Her family lived off the grid, with no electricity and, naturally, no television. However, according to Hemmens, her off-the-grid childhood helped her get the roles she has now. She is currently starring in Hallmark Channel’s Christmas in My Heart with Luke Macfarlane, but also in the CW Network series Roswell, New Mexico.
Hallmark Channel – Heather Hemmens On Hallmark Channel
Many of us know certain lines from our favorite holiday movies and can recite them from scratch each year. In Heather Hemmens’ case, she grew up without those holiday specials and movies, as she had no TV.
Heather, who stars in the Hallmark Christmas movie Christmas in My Heart, grew up off the grid, in the woods of Waldo. Her family had no electricity and no television, meaning there were no Christmas specials or repeats in her life.
However, the actress, 33, now living in Los Angeles, and who also stars in the CW Network series Roswell, New Mexico, feels her early life helped her get where she is today. She told the Press Herald that the discipline and focus she learned from her Maine childhood have contributed to her success as an actress.
“There are so many things I think I gained from growing up that way, including a strong work ethic. You can’t be lazy when there’s wood to bring in or things to pick in the garden,” said Hemmens. “I also read a lot of books, which really enhanced my imagination. When I’m looking at a script, I visualize everything I’m reading.”
Hallmark Channel – Heather Hemmens’ Career In Film And TV
In the last decade, Hemmens has appeared in a number of films and TV series besides Roswell, New Mexico. She starred in the CW Network’s Hellcats and the soap opera If Loving You is Wrong on OWN.
According to Heather, her off-the-grid childhood in Maine makes her life in the city seem “very easy and luxurious.” Now living on the grid, she has had a chance to watch holiday films and even has some favorites. Hemmens apparently enjoyed the Will Ferrell comedy, Elf, and Jim Carrey’s live-action version of the classic story How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
Now, Heather has now joined a holiday tradition that has been growing for more than a decade. The Hallmark Channel started airing original holiday movies back around 2009 and the popular tradition continues today.
