Alison Sweeney has many arrows to her bow, including starring in Days of Our Lives and many Hallmark movies.
However, her fans might not remember another role the Hallmark queen played in the past. It turns out Alison was featured in an episode of the iconic sitcom, Friends. Read on to find out more about the time that Sweeney starred in our favorite comedy show.
Hallmark star Alison Sweeney and Friends
Alison Sweeney has starred in many Hallmark movies, including the Murder She Baked movie series, the Wedding Veil series and movies like Open By Christmas.
Meanwhile, her latest movie, Love and Jane featured this month as part of the Loveuary programming event. Moreover, the talented actress also served as an executive producer on the movie, her 28th for the network.
As her fans no doubt know, Alison also starred in the 1985 TV show, Webster and also featured as Sami Brady on Days of Our Lives from 1987 to 2014.
However, there is one role fans might not recall. It turns out her role on Days of Our Lives led to a guest spot on the hit sitcom, Friends. The episode aired in 2001 and was titled The One With Joey’s Award.
That episode saw Joey (Matt LeBlanc) winning a Soapy Award for his role in Days of Our Lives. In that Friends episode, Sweeney starred as Jessica Ashley, a star of Days of Our Lives, which was a unique crossover for the real-life DOOL star.
‘It was so fun’
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Alison explained, “It was written into ‘Friends’ that Joey was a character on ‘Days of Our Lives,’” adding:
It was just so funny. [The ‘DOOL’ cast] would always watch the episodes and laugh over who we thought Joey was doing an impression of [from the cast]. We all had our suspicions. It was so fun.
Meanwhile, Sweeney said the fictional Days of Our Lives was a great addition to the episode, as it combined her two acting worlds, saying:
They even made a reference to Jim Reilly, who was the head writer and who wrote my character of Sami into the show…They even had a spoof of him on ‘Friends.’ It was just hilarious to play the role of a bitchy soap star.
However, it turns out the Hallmark star had a special connection to that episode of Friends because it was themed around the soap opera. However, there was another crossover fans might not be aware of. She starred opposite Jennifer Aniston, the daughter of her DOOL costar, John Aniston. Jennifer’s dad famously starred as Victor Kiriakis in the soapie. Sweeney told Media Village:
I did have a connection to Jennifer [Aniston], knowing her dad. Jen and I talked about that a little bit. Her dad is such a lovely guy and a fun person to work with, with such a dry sense of humor. That was another fun thing about doing ‘Friends,’ making that connection.
Moreover, Alison found the experience of starring in Friends fun and a welcome change of pace. “It was just fun and very much a wonderful learning experience, and I’m now forever a friend of ‘Friends.’”
