Hallmark Stephen Huszar And Katie Cassidy On Falling In Love While Filming A Royal Christmas Crush

Imagine starring in a Hallmark romantic movie and turning it into a true fairy-tale romance. This is what happened when Katie Cassidy filmed her first Hallmark movie with Stephen Huszar. While she had no plans of falling in love, the couple’s on-screen chemistry quickly became the real thing. Katie and Stephen recently opened up about how their relationship started while filming A Royal Christmas Crush.

Timing was everything for Katie Cassidy and Stephen Huszar in their Hallmark movie

Katie Cassidy recently filmed her first movie for Hallmark Channel where she leads alongside Hallmark regular actor, Stephen Huszar. Along the way, the couple’s chemistry turned into a real thing, ending with Katie and Stephen in a real-life relationship.

Cassidy opened up about the fact they were dating in a June post on Instagram. She shared a sunny and happy selfie of the pair, writing the caption, “Welp, cats out of the bag…”

It turns out is wasn’t actually love at first sight, as Cassidy told ET over Zoom that things only turned romantic in the second week of filming, saying:

I think we went for lunch or something and I noticed his crystals. I love crystals. And we started bonding over spirituality and I started to get to know the real Stephen.

Katie Cassidy became ‘smitten’ by Stephen Huszar

Cassidy, 36, explained that she was “very smitten,” joking, “How could you not be with a sh*t-eating grin looking at this horrible-looking person and this jawline?”

She added that it “just happened” but she thinks they had the same moment when they both realized they had true chemistry.

Meanwhile, Stephen, 39, agreed that it was one scene from the movie where they felt their feelings evolve into something more, saying:

It was actually exactly the same scene. So that was good. Our intuitions were both firing at the same time.

Hallmark stars credit their mutual respect

Speaking of how their relationship turned into a real-life romance, both Katie and Stephen credited their respect for each other. Cassidy admitted to being “very open” and when they first met, Huszar didn’t know who she was. However, she added that it was “very genuine and real” and that they took each other at face value, saying:

This may sound a little cheesy, but when you know, you know. Or it’s meant to be. It’s the universe. And timing is everything.

Meanwhile, her fellow lead star agreed, speaking of getting to know someone and noting a lot of commonality, while having a lot of respect for each other. He added: “In many ways, not just our art form but other things in our lives. So that made it very interesting and different.”

Meanwhile, Katie added that it was still learning and “fully accepting a person without judgment from just being there.” The new Hallmark star said they soon realized they worked really well together and have so much in common, adding: “It’s nice to also be friends with someone first, but then have it evolve into this beautiful [relationship].”

The movie’s storyline sees Ava (Cassidy) entering a new world and experiencing a royal culture. Speaking of her character, she said she thinks there is a lot of curiosity on Ava’s part. Speaking of Prince Henry, she says how sheltered he is and how people take care of everything for him. Katie added that Ava is “just very real and down to earth.” Meanwhile, she explained that this was where they both lifted each other up and become better people.

Teasing the movie, Huszar said, “I address the nation in the movie and Ava, Katie’s character, helps me prepare for that speech,” adding, “So there’s a bit of a turning point that you’ll see in that scene as well.”

Meanwhile, the new couple appears to be open to making A Royal Christmas Crush into a potential Hallmark franchise. When ET asked them whether they would want to work together again in the future, Huzcar quipped, “Oh, I’m not sure about that,” while Cassidy joked, “I got to call my agent…” adding, “No, of course!”

Speaking of possible sequels, Katie said she wants to see how their relationship evolves, adding, “Where is the royal honeymoon, royal wedding and the royal baby with Ava and Prince Henry?”

Until then, Katie and Stephen are leaving it to the universe to decide, adding, “ I would love to work with him all the time.”

Huszar quickly agreed, saying, “If our intentions are there and if it’s meant to be, then absolutely.”
