On tonight’s The Chicken Sister episode, the Mimi Girls have always had grit. The Frannie Girls had it too. Only they’ve grown rusty with having things go easy on them. Nancy for one still struggles with not relying on her husband. She accepts orders and she has yet to check them first before signing off on them.
It led to quite the confusion. Nancy just needed to rely on her gut from now. It was the same gut that was telling her that her son was up to something. He suddenly had a long ling out front of the Cluckery. It didn’t make sense to Nancy because she knew deep down that her son was a horrible businessman.
Nancy’s late husband saw that too. It’s why he gave up on Frank Jr. long before he died. He saw that his son was inept. It took Nancy a little bit longer to reach the same conclusion and now she was worried about his long lines. Nancy finally stopped by when she saw on her own restaurant’s regulars there
It turns out Frank Jr, who now goes by just Frank, had changed the fried chicken recicpe. His previous one had been crap. He used mostly prepackaged items instead of fresh. And he’s since seen how little traction that was making.
Frank now uses fresh chicken with fresh seasoning as well as oil. His chicken was good. He had sports on all the big tv screens. The Cluckery was a hit with the men of the town. Not so much the women. The women were staying loyal to the Chicken Sisters.
Even if they were only ones. Nancy wasn’t allowed into the new Cluckery. Frank created a policy that none of his rivals were welcomed. This included his ex-wife and that poses a problem. Amanda was still trying to divorce him. She tried to get Frank to work with her to get a simple divorce and he was stalling.
Frank was using his history of ineptitude to say he does have time or he forgets. Amanda was sick of it. She wanted out of her unhappy marriage and so she went down to the courthouse. She found out what she needed to do to get a divorce. She has filed out the paperwork.
She merely needed to have her ex-husband served. She couldn’t enter the Cluckery, but Nancy could sneak into the restaurant. She wore a disguise that could only fool her son. She tasted his new chicken recipe and she recognized it. It was her recipe.
Her son was using her recipe. He wasn’t using Mr. Chicken’s recipe. The conglomerate has a recipe that tasted disgusting and no one wanted it. Frannie’s recipe was the same as Mimi’s recipe. The two original women chefs created their together. It should therefore belong to the Chicken Sisters because they were the true descendants of the best friends. Frank using that recipe and the sports on the big flatscreens just showed he was ready to finally compete. Frank didn’t want to go away. He wanted to build a legacy of his own.
Though this was Frank. He didn’t make a new recipe. He didn’t bring in a new chef. He simply stole from his mother because why not? The Frannie’s boys have been stealing from the Mimi’s girls for generations. He’d probably have asked for alimony if ever got around to the divorce.
Frank didn’t just fall back on the family’s recipe. He might also have sold the family recipe to Mr. Chicken. Nancy stuck around after she ate her meal. She spoke with her son. He said he was just Frank now. He also said that he could do whatever he wants with the recipe.
Frank also called her Nancy. She’s been “Mama” for most of his life and now she’s Nancy? The hits kept coming for the poor woman because Nancy went home to check on Gus. She found out that Clayton was taking care of her. If you can it that! Clayton was a gut that cuts and runs when it gets tough.
Gus being sick was just going to make it tough again for him. Gus wasn’t going to get better. She didn’t have the flu. She had a condition that required specialized care and Clayton couldn’t even provide that for an afternoon.
Clayton got her apple pie that she couldn’t eat. He remembered to get her meds for her. He just didn’t remember to write down her oxygen levels or that she needed to eat to take her meds or else she was left in crippling pain. Clayton wasn’t a good guy. He merely pretending to be one.
He pretended to come back for Mae as well. The truth was he’s back because he was getting old. He was worried about who would take care of him and he’s told so many lies that soon he’ll have no one there at the end.
Clayton claimed to have sold his business. He then showed up late to take care of Gus because he said work was too demanding. Which is it? Did he sell or didn’t he?
Did he want to get back together with Gus or not? Clayton acted like anything that didn’t go to plan was inconvenient. He did that when Gus got pregnant with Mae. He ran off and he didn’t go back until he had nothing else to do. Clayton chose to leave after Nancy confronted him. She did what no one else did. She stood up for Gus.
Nancy called Clayton out on his lies, his selfishness, and told him that him to run off again. Its what he’s best at. Clayton thankfully decided to take her advice. He later left town. Just not before Mae saw him leaving. Mae had her own confrontation with Clayton.
She told him that he wasn’t really her daddy because he never raised her or loved her. He was simply the guy that loved Gus once. Mae saw for herself where she got her lying from and it made her realize she wants to be more like her Mama and less like Clayton.
Mae’s wedding wasn’t going to plan anyway. Sabrina tried. She did everything possible. She failed because she kept running into the Mimi’s curse. The Mimi’s Girls rarely got married or stayed with the father of their daughters. They were unlucky in love.
Mae found Jay and he was great. Though the universe didn’t seem to want her to get marry him. Their marriage license was delayed because of a typo. Her dad couldn’t walk her down the aisle. Then there was the tornado that was about to hit town.
There usually was a tornado siren that goes off. It didn’t go off this time because the Mayor had a heart attack. No one from his office was allowed to touch it without his consent and so Nancy took the initiative. She sounded the sirens because someone had to.
Mae didn’t hear it because she had entered a fugue state, but luckily her fiancé got her to safety and Amanda had some happy news to share. Not only did she serve her husband the divorce papers. She also met someone that wants to turn her doodles into a book and it wasn’t a scam.
She was celebrating with Sergio when they heard the sirens. Frank had gone to her house to fight for their marriage and all he found was Gus. Gus who needed to be moved before she got hurt. Frank has been talking about the lone wolf yet he stepped up when he was actually needed.
