Speaking in her first interview since her release from prison, Lori Loughlin opened up on how volunteering helped when she was ‘down and broken.’

Former WCTH star Lori Loughlin recently appeared on KTLA 5 to talk about her experience volunteering at Project Angel Food. Previously, she starred as Abigail Stanton on When Calls the Heart and starred in When Hope Calls on GAC Family. However, she has opened up about how “down and broken” she felt after the college admissions scandal. Volunteering to help others helped Lori and made her feel proud again.

On July 23, Lori Loughlin appeared on the TV network KTLA 5 to speak of her experience volunteering with Project Angel Food. Her appearance came during their Lead With Love 3 TV special. Meanwhile, this was a fundraiser for the charity that delivers “medically tailored” meals to patients with life-threatening illnesses.

The Full House alum explained that she had been a volunteer with Project Angel Food for around 18 months. While volunteering, she performs various tasks, including packing meals and delivering them to people’s homes.

Former Hallmark star felt ‘down and broken’

In the interview, which can be found at around the 49:30 mark of the video below, we see Lori on the road, visiting people. She explained that she saw the same people every week and clearly has built a relationship with them. However, she also describes the people she works with. Loughlin said it is a community and a family and that everyone that works there is “just so wonderful.” She added:

They’ve welcomed me with such open arms at a time when I was feeling particularly down and broken.

Looking visibly emotional, Lori said she had “found a home” there, which is why she is so proud to be working with the organization. She added that the work is doing more than just feeding people, “it’s about loving people.” Meanwhile, in the footage, it is clear that those she helps genuinely appreciate her.

About the scandal

The former Hallmark star served two months in a medium-security federal correctional institution in Victorville, California. The sentence came for her part in the college admissions scandal after she and her husband, Mossimo Giannulli paid $500,000 to guarantee their daughters, Olivia Jade and Isabella gain admission to the University of Southern California.

As Loughlin was in a mini-security camp, she wore a uniform but had access to classes such as ceramics, Pilates and spinning. Moreover, the Full House alum paid a $150,000 fine and had to complete 100 hours of community service. Meanwhile, she also has to spend two years on supervised release.

Due to the scandal, Loughlin was written out of the Hallmark show When Calls the Heart. However, she did reprise her role as Abigail Stanton in GAC’s spinoff When Hope Calls. Since then, there has been no news of her returning to the small screen.
