When Calls The Heart Creator Opens Up Abigail And Henry’s Future

When Calls the Heart spoilers and updates tease that Martin Cummins will return for Season 9 but the same cannot be said for Lori Loughlin, who plays the role of Abigail. The show’s creator, Brian Bird, opened up about the future of both characters.

In an interview with the Christopher Closeup podcast, Bird hinted that Henry will certainly return in Season 9 but he didn’t provide any in-depth details about his role in the upcoming season.

Is Henry Gowen Leaving Hope Valley?

Fans may recall that in the season 8 finale, Henry seemed like he was leaving Hope Valley for good. He shared important details regarding the mining accident with Bill. He also told Lucas that he’ll be leaving. He added that nothing mattered to him, not even the saloon, hotel, or the petroleum business. He doesn’t care about acquiring “more shiny objects.” He wanted to find what could bring him comfort.

Nathan Grant And Lucas Bouchard ’ Future

The show exec did tease that Lucas Bouchard (Chris McNally) and Nathan Grant (Kevin McGarry) will share an interesting friendship that’s similar to how Elizabeth Thornton (Erin Krakow) and Rosemary Coulter (Pascale Hutton) became good friends. Fans can also expect “more interesting stories” about Henry in the next season, which is good news.

Will Lori Loughlin Return?

In another interview with Charisma Podcast Network’s Greenlines podcast, Bird told the host, Dr. Steve, that he’d love to see Lori Loughlin back in the show. There are storylines that can pave the way for her comeback but he admitted that he’s unsure whether it’ll work out. There’s a lot of factors to be considered, not to mention the other stakeholders must also agree to the decision. So, Bird can’t say for sure if they can pull that off.

Greene Opens Up About Characters Leaving

Meanwhile, Paul Greene, who plays the role of Carson said that fans shouldn’t worry too much about characters leaving at the end of the season. He explained that it’s normal for a character to leave so that when the new season starts, they can start off with a new story. He also made it clear that he hasn’t spoken with When Calls The Heart Showrunner, John Tinker, yet. He has no idea what the future holds for his character.

Some fans threatened to stop watching the show after voicing out their disappointment over Elizabeth’s decision to choose Lucas. Paul Greene tried to ease fans’ sentiments by telling them to stay open and kind. He also reminded them that there are other storylines to look forward to.

Bird also defended the show’s decision and hoped that fans would trust them more. He added that they’re not angry with anyone and that they’re satisfied with how season 8 ended.
